Just finished watching Samurai Champloo for the first time. 10/10.

Mugen and Jin are both so cool, only Fuu is a bit bland, but the episodes are really entertaining and the art style, characters, humor and action are all great. It's a little masterpiece. I very much enjoyed it.

Samurai Champloo is basically the cool niche' show we only started watching because of that one Fuu gif where the bombs are bouncing in her kimono. After episode 1 we started following it for the unique characters and hiphop musical premise. Now it's that one classic show that you try to recommend to other people in hopes that they haven't seen it so you can show it off to them. Probably how many a white kid was introduced to the underground hiphop channel on Pandora. Still have the odd champloo track in my playlist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-otqHW9iQug

This show also helped solidify my path towards total weebdom because a) it opened up a whole new world of anime and b) it lead to my discovery of nip music. It was such a joy to watch all the way through until the end.

This is my problem with Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star, but strangely not Champloo.

>Bebop has decent backstory that to me is overshadowed by many single episodes. Pierrot Le Fou, Sympathy for the Devil, Heavy Metal Queen, Waltz For Venus, Speak Like A Child, Jupiter Jazz, Brain Scratch, they were good. I thought Cowboy Funk was garbage though.

But with Champloo I don't get that, because there's a deadset goal in finding the sunflower samurai. So we have a journey, and getting there is what's fun about it.

Meanwhile Outlaw Star has barely any plot and most episodes are just wacky space stuff or fanservice and then heavy on the drama at the very end. Outlaw Star is worst, take off the nostalgia goggles.
