No, asians mainly eat fermented soy products while a lot of western food products use raw soy or soy based protein to substitute for filler in their food. Learn the difference. Tofu isn't fermented unless it's specifically the fermented version (you'll know from its pungent smell and heavily spiced taste, chinks use it for flavouring or a condiment with rice). Tofu is basically a solid custard formed from coagulating soy milk to extract the proteins. Like if you watched some of the vegan tutorials before, you'll realize you can even make tofu out of fresh soy milk and lemon juice.

Tofu isn't fermented. You need to insert enzymes akin to rennin to get the process going. Unless the guy left soy milk in a calf stomach pouch (the water storage container prevalent at the time), this will not happen.
