Actually surprised that one's apparently remained on Youtube since July. Victor Entertainment seems prone to removing and blocking all sorts of shit related to series they own the music rights to, especially .hack. I'll look into it, but I think perhaps a better way would just be to scale it dimensionally if that allows for it. Retain visual resolution, but just make the total area (and thus data) smaller. Would also be curious as to if it can convert something from 16:9 to 4:3 if the work was originally produced for a smaller screen.

If a 4:3 work is in 16:9 it's either stretched or there are black bars on the sides, for stretched video resampling it back to a 4:3 resolution will fix stretching and for black bars ffmpeg has a couple of filters (crop, cropdetect) meant for that.
Sometimes some video games and very rarely video instead of resampling or using black bars on the 4:3 image will chop off the top and bottom to make it 16:9, it was common in the playstation 2. You can't do anything in that case.e

Yeah, I meant stretched, not letterboxed (or whatever the term for the vertical equivalent is if that's wrong). I know some series offered native "anamorphic widescreen" as a viewing option for DVD (and blu-ray rereleases, I'd assume), but even then I'm pretty sure 4:3 was the intended method they were made for being viewed with (for TV releases, I mean), otherwise they'd have just been widescreen from the start.

>I thought no one knew about this show.
Actually just watched it for the first time a few months back. Pretty good, if weird and somewhat hard to find the pacing of (in that it's hard to get a feel for the flow of time), but I think confusing the viewer was something of an intentional point. Hearing about the opening was actually a big part of what caught my interest, and I'm glad I watched the show in its entirety. Been bringing it up occasionally since then, and I've seen a couple of anons express interest in it, at least as far as "what the fuck is that series?" goes.
I can only assume that people are a lot more familiar with the incarnation of the cast as they are in its spinoff Nurse Witch Komugi-chan though.
>>782999
Similar case with Bleach I suppose, where overall the series is rather shit, but the anime adaptation at least had some pretty good openings and endings (and OST as well; though to be fair I never did watch much of Naruto so I can't speak much of what its OST was like, so I'm mainly just speaking of Bleach there).
>>783014
I've rumor he technically did, in the episode he died. Something about the actual impalement killing him, but him temporarily pulling himself back to life to take Thymilph with him, and give Simon some parting words of Kamina-wisdom. Not sure how true it is, but of course, being a series by Gainax, they might have just decided to go "sure, why not" to a fan theory (the way the intro to the series can be argued as an alt-universe future like the ones in Episode 26.

Gun X Sword's opening ( >>782225 ) does that, starting with only properly showing the initial group of Van, Wendy, their weapons (including Van's mech, Dann of Thursday), and Wendy's turtle, Kameo. The other protagonists and villains get added as they make their appearances, and remain shaded out with blue fluid until then. There's also a second, visually remixed variant of the opening after shit gets real in the latter parts of the series, and does similar, while blacking out then-dead characters as well. The credits do similar as well, showing off pans of official art of the characters that have made their debuts, but early on it's a lot of time is given to each member of the initial gang. Said credits had a final, unique still at the end, showing conceptual art of some character or event pertinent to the episode itself (such as pic related).

Some series certainly do better with instrumental (or "more or less instrumental", in Baccano's case, as it's got a line or two in there) openings than lyrical ones. Depends on the mood/setting really.
>>783094
To be fair, Soultaker did air in 2001, was only thirteen episodes, and only appeals to certain people I suppose. I'm not sure if it's been re-aired since the TechTV days, or seen a compilation DVD release out here, which I suppose also limits the base to growing just to internet viewings/the occasional aftermarket buyfag at this point. Neither does Tatsunoko Productions seem to have had reason to promote it in something like Tatsunoko vs Capcom either. At this point there's likely not much reason to talk about it, aside for topics like this where dropping an opening or ending can get some interest.
How is Nurse Witch Komugi-chan in comparison? Besides the obvious mood change, I mean.

>There is an anime with a Motley Crue song as its OP
Woah, what?
Also, don't be fooled by the catchy OP. Its not a good show.

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play. I always thought the 9th (and last) Naruto opening was pretty great. The use of off-colors, the rotoscoped animation, Naruto sparring with Rock Lee, the way the song playing creates this sort of... image of a motherly woman watching her son grow into an adult.
Good stuff.

Excellent taste. SSX's OP isn't as good but it's the same singer so it has the same feel to it.

It's a shame that it was only 3 episodes. Imaishi has a pretty good track record, and hopefully Promare will be be good too.

Show is great, but OP is not as good. Personally, I prefer music that is just a bit faster.

I feel like a bigger lolicon when watching that show than when fapping to loli.

Agreed. A show full of cute girls with plump thighs, short skirts, lewd jokes, and no shame about it. Mitsudomoe, I feel, is obligatory if you like loli.

Naruto sucked complete ass but at least they chose good music. Embed is the best hands down even though it's ED.

Actually I have a better way of articulating this. Its basically the polar opposite of Kodomo no Jikan but with arguably the same premise: Sexually pent-up, near virginal, teacher teaches a class that features three characters that interact with him in hilarious and interesting ways.
The difference falls in where KnJ is clearly lewd and direct teasing Mitsudomoe feels lighthearted and fun. It's not about the lewd loli, it's about the antics of those lolis and whatever lewdness is just there to appreciate at your own leisure. I guess it'd be like comparing a great view you came to see, vs a great view you happened to catch while also having fun doing something else.
Or something I don't fucking know it's 2:30 am and my roommated finally stopped playing MHW so I can die sleep.
