Whats next for the Gundam franchise? Well recently all we have really gotten is Iron Blooded Orphans,Thunderbolt, and Build fighters.

The issue I'm seeing with Gundam, especially UC stuff, is it's at an exhausted state. Don't get me wrong there's still plenty of UC material to adapt that could make for a great anime but the UC needs to find a way to seperate itself from the one year war. History needs to move on, No more char clones (literally and figuratively), no more feddies no more neo-new-double-Zion. F91 and Crossbone are a step in this direction but I want to see it pushed further. The Treaty of Westphalia in our world marked the shift from medieval fuedal levied and mercenary military skirmishes over feudal titles and territories to modern nation-states and the existence of standing national military forces. The very nature of armed conflict in the western world, the very nature of national and international politics in a relatively small amount of time changed very drastically such that the kinds of political controversies and style of warfare waged that you would see in 1590 looked almost alien to what they would be by 1690. That same kind of paradigm shift is what I think UC really needs to revitalize itself.

The problem is that most of the Jap fanbase doesn't want any particular change. The people who are diehard model buyers stick to UC almost completely. Unicorn was the biggest one to buck that trend, and it was still heavily traditional for the suits. The Unicorn itself is possibly the biggest success the franchise has had since it first established itself. Build fighters also did very well for catering to younger fans, the bearguy mk 2 also sold insanely well since kids and chicks loved it too.
I still have no idea what they were actually trying to do with Twilight Axis. It's still entirely possible they'll animate another one of the novels or manga, like Sentinel or Moon, but that'll be a while off. Who knows, maybe they'll all go nuts and give us For The Barrel.

Strangely a lot of people who got that far into Zeta cheered at that moment, including myself. The second half of Zeta is this weird descent into painful melodrama filled with Tominoisms and constant retreading of previously explored concepts with nothing new attached. ZZ makes the AEUG look really bad. It starts by effectively establishing that there weren't any real winners to the Gryps Conflict and both sides effectively fought to their mutual destruction. The Argama limps along to the nearest colony and Bright is so desperate that he tries to recruit the first children that come his way. Shockingly, these kids don't feel like they have any stake in a war with Neo Zeon and they end up spending more time acting on their own impulses than they do following military orders.
I'm rewatching it right now and enjoying it more than I expected to. My previous thoughts had been that it only got good once they made it down to Earth (Around 20 episodes in), but I've revised that now to just when they leave the colony Shangri-La. The dumb antics become slightly less dumb, the drama becomes more serious and the plot gradually becomes less about today's new mobile suit that will defeat the Argama for sure.

People (rightfully) give it a lot of shit but it actually does get pretty good. You just have to sit through like 26 or so completely mediocre and sometimes downright awful episodes first.
I'd at least recommend giving it a shot. Just don't waste your time watching the first episode. Seriously, don't do it.

I actually like Juden Tomorrow. I feel like his character is a pretty refreshing change from the series' standard "whiny autistic kid who doesn't wanna get in the robutt." Although even if you don't like him, at least you still have Puru.

Apparently the story they went with was that Scirocco mindraped him with a concentrated surge of space autism right before he died. No, there is no movie trilogy. If you don't think you're going to enjoy watching it, then just don't. You have no obligation to anyone to watch a whole TV series. You could go ahead and skip to Char's Counterattack if you wanted, all you need to know is that Axis loses by the end of ZZ, but I don't know if there's much point if you're already discovering that you don't much care for Gundam.
In any case, ZZ began the week after Zeta ended, so it seems like the studio decided to make the first episode as an incredibly cheap buffer in order to buy time for the show's production to get up to full speed. Hence, Judau narrates the history of the One Year War and the Gryps Conflict, introduces some of the new characters and nothing actually happens.

I love how he essentially becomes a new type battle maniac because he got made fun of one too many times. His theft of the mobile suit in the first few episodes makes me laugh every time I see it, because people essentially can't believe some kid successfully wandered in and stole a mobile suit.

Anon who ranted about the later half of Zeta here, finally got around to starting ZZ.
Now I know why people told me to skip the first episode.
So Judau is, to put it bluntly, a dick. A somewhat well-intentioned one but a dick nonetheless. Not the worst, really, until it gets to MUH ADULTS when Yazan starts threatening to shoot people, and few moments later the two Argama nigglets pick up a rifle and try to shoot Yazan. Also the same nigglets let Judau on because "he doesn't look like a bad guy" despite previously trying to steal the fucking Gundam and enabling a mercenary.
And then there's Marshmallow. As much as I enjoy the raging erection he has for Haman and his stupid idealism and dropkicking Judau in the dick , how is this guy a Commander/General/whatever his rank is when he can't even keep his cockpit shut? At least that could be justified for the kids, but not even the dumbest Zeon/Titans cannon fodder did this shit.

ZZ feels more and more like a parody of its source material than a proper sequel. That the Intro tells you that it isn't anime but real doesn't help either. Its a miracle that Char's Counterattack was made.

Fuck this, I can't stand it anymore. It was a bit too late when you guys told me I should skip the first 20 episodes though at that point, would it be worthy at all? If you have to wait half a show, especially a ~50 episode one, for it to get good it feels like it isn't good at all.
Twelve episodes in before the Double Zeta shows up, and it still felt like an eternity. And I thought the second half of Zeta was bad.
