Not specifically manga, but Sentry is a pretty good example

This is especially disconcerting when Sentry saves the world and dooms it in the same action

If a character is too strong then you shackle them with some kind of rule stopping them from solving everything with their ability.

If a character is too wise then you put them against un-beatable odds with limited resources.

If a character being "OP" will ruin your story, it probably wasn't a very good story to begin with. The best stories have characters who are unbeatable yet still face challenges in other areas. Mentally, socially, emotionally, existentially. A good character can be overpowered and still be very interesting to watch. See accelerator, Kumagawa, etc.

Anyway, the fight are little bit dirtier than Dragon Ball, and the anime is really tame compared to the manga. Garouden is better, though; Baki-Dou got some of its feeling, I think. I'd still read all of Baki just for the father and son relationship.

I really like Bouya Haruimichi in Crows. He's pretty much the ultimate badass of the series. He's one of the top two fighters of all the schools. He can be beaten when it's ridiculous odds and dudes with weapons of course but still it's a real bitch to stop him. Couple that with his aloofness and laziness this allows other characters to shine as they have to try and convince Bouya to help their cause or solve the problem themselves.
