Did you not see the part in my post where I explained that FLCL was a test for new art styles and techniques?
>Characters are bland
Some are, but the main cast are pretty memorable (main cast being Nouta, Haruko, Mamimi and Commander Amarao )
>Story goes nowhere
Nouta was a pushover kid at the start, but by episode 5 of 6, he's grown as a character and no longer reluctant to stand up to the challenges presented. Given how the story is about Nouta growing up, I think that counts as story/character development.
>Artstyle
See first sentence.
>Music
It's unusual that shows are developed around the music used, but when they are they tend to be pretty good. I think that FLCL did a pretty great job building it self around the pillows music. I'm curious, if you could have it your way, what music would you have picked?
also, you absolute nigger; You'd have to be pretty deep into otaku culture to know of/remember DAICON and its significance. Unless you lived the experience or did some digging, you'd probably just think Haruko was wearing a bunny girl outfit and said something random.
If my enjoyment for the show lied somewhere in "how many old school references can I find" you might have a point, but that's not what I said at all. I just pointed out a particular one that I thought was neat.
