> But Catholic Christmas is quite another matter. Various media sources have created a certain image in the brains of people. This is a bright, magical holiday, when large families come from all over the country to their parents' house and in the same sweaters gather at a festive table, forgetting about the former disagreements. When couples make appointments on a skating rink in front of a huge shining Christmas tree, they confess their love and gain their happiness. When the spirits of Christmas and help to find happiness are lonely and embittered for the whole world.
> It's clear that all this is just the images shown to us in films, serials, cartoons, told in books and that it has little in common with the real world, but such a Christmas - as a breath of fresh air for those who have New Year associated with phrases "Well, what about you, like not relative? Go to the table, talk to your family. Look, Uncle Vasya came from the village specially, now we'll get him out of the salad and wake him up. Get away from your computer. Friends? What kind of friends can there be in your internet, you never saw them" and the like.

The way I celebrate Christmas is instead of making gifts or receiving them, I prefer to do a donation to causes that I believe to be important (free net, children rights).
I also put together what I call my 'Christmas pack', which consists of what I can buy with the left-over money once I made the various donations.
So, mostly :
- vegetarian pizza
- no-brand ice tea
- chocolate dessert
- mini seasonal cake
It's not for everyone, but I feel it's closer to the "Christmas spirit", which for me is just a time of quietness and thinking about other people before yourself.
Let alone that the way Christmas is celebrated has nothing to do with anything, nothing with the bible anyway, it's a total invention that drew from a badly assorted mix of ironically non-monotheist traditions (Saturnalia festival and Yule, so Ancient Rome and German paganism respectively) and then Coca Cola & co ads propaganda.

HGST have the stastically lowest failure rates out of any manufacturer.
https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-failure-rates-q3-2017/
People debate the validity of these statistics, but they have several years' worth of data now so I don't really see how it could be biased against a manufacturer when all of the server loads are essentially going to be the same, regardless of brand.

Are you trying to make anon kill himself when it suffers a mechanical failure after six uses? Because that's what happened to my brand new 4TB WD and it cost a shitload of money to get (most of) that data back. Maybe it was a fluke but fuck WD.
External HDDs: NEVER, EVER.
Also: As >>773752 said Backups are crucial.

Thanks for all the replies, jeez.
What I specifically want is an internal one to use as my main drive, since I already have another 2TB drive that's filled with anime to the point where it only has around 60gb left for storage. I guess I should've specified that.
Being a poorfag and also in the habit of hoarding data isn't easy. HGSTs are out of my league by far, and so are the WD Blacks. I initially asked about the Toshibas because I saw last year's failure rates and out of 200 Toshiba drives there was only one failure, and they're much more affordable. Any opinions on those? I could get a WD blue but I don't really know if it's worth the price difference.

I disagree I owned two blues one lasted around 7 or so years before it died the other I still use for backups then I bought a 1tb black and it died in less then a year due to bad sectors.
I also see people shit on seagate drives all the time but I'm not sure if that's just WD fanboyism or legit criticism.

If you have money. Put data and hard to re-install programs on a separate disk than your OS and easy to re-install (often FOSS) programs. This will let you nuke the OS as often as you want without risk to the data that matters.
WD externals are a nightmare waiting to happen. I also lost TBs of data when one died after less than 10 uses and filled to under half capacity. It was a 4TB drive.

See failure rates noted by >>773760. Seagate leads the way to ruin.
I have several WD Reds, a Fujitsu (only one to ever die), a Toshiba, and a Samsung. Would not recommend to anyone here anything I haven't used myself.

Because the vast majority of users are not actually constantly using their hard drives - for instance, only two of the 3 HDDs I have in my computer are currently in use - one that has music and other files on it, and the other that holds nothing but anime. Music and HD-video are both very light loads in the first place, but the remaining hard drive that holds nothing but game installers and ROMs likely has its head parked and is in a low power state. Very different from the constant movement that drives experience in data centers (whether consumer or enterprise models which are not worth it!), paired with the increased vibration they get from having so many more drives nearby.
So for the average consumer (you and I) are Seagate drives acceptable? Sure, they will likely hold the data for many years and perform well. However, is the roughly $30 premium for the HGST drive over the Seagate worth the greatly increased security of the 2, 4, or 8 TB of content we're intending to store? For me, it's not just the "inconvenience" of having to restore from a backup, it's that 4 or 8 TB of content (assuming I am going to actually fill up the drive - which I will) represents such a huge investment of time and network resources that a $30 premium is nothing compared to what the loss of the data would represent. Hence, all 3 of my currently spinning drives are HGSTs, and only 1 of their backup drives is a Seagate that I retired from daily usage. Sage for autistic storage media rant. Caveat Emptor, anons.

I spent the last few hours cleaning up crumbs in the weirdest of places, I found some in my heating & ventilation system which I discovered by turning on the heat, bits of raisin cookie were stuck between the first and second level door hinges, I'm not too sure how that occurred. I did try calling out to it/her, but I've since stopped due to some really fucking spook shit,
>Be cleaning the last of the cookie crumbs
>Hear what sounded like a child blowing a raspberry from outside
>go to window from second story and peek between the blinds
>maybe about 30-50 yards into my backyard at the edge of the treeline, there's a kid running in place. Not like a jogging exercise or whatever but literally running in this weird fucking walk cycle that seemed to reset every 4 seconds, going no where and not kicking up any snow or leaves.
After I saw that I noped the fuck away from the window and locked every lockable entry point in the house. I've turned off all lights and sound making devices, I'm currently in my hallway closet posting this and trying to gather my shit. I don't fucking know what that was or what I did wrong, maybe it has something to do with me trying to contact Ougi Oshino on Halloween. I'm not doing so well right now.

All is well now, I fell asleep in the closet and woke up about 20 minutes ago. I immediately burned all of the symbols and material I used in the summoning. So far so good, as I haven't found anymore crumbs I put all cookies and sweets in a tall cabinet shelf. There hasn't been anymore giggles or raspberry blown at me, everything's actually pretty cozy and quite now.
Although what happened was particularity unsettling, I'll admit it was kinda fun up until the ghost part. I will continue these summonings during holidays and intermittently through out this year, I'll keep anons updated when I do them, for those who are interested that is. There's nothing wrong with it if you don't believe what it says wholeheartedly. The problem is trying to talk to it in the first place without it running around and doing whatever it wants like it's on peyote. If you want to talk, you're supposed to trap it somehow when you summon it.
