Setting the waifu fighting aside, what do you think of Shaft's adaptation of the light novels?

Isshin writes Koyomi's inner thoughts in the novels which makes them amusing to read and sometimes these do not make it into the anime. A couple times Shaft tried to include these in those colored cards. Sometimes these parts were fully adapted into the many gag sketch scenes too but it feels different when animated than in the novel. Someday i'd like to see someone other than Shinbo as director just to see how different the adaptation would be.

Monogatari was a . . . It was a faith, the novel, anime, it stayed with me as a part of me, possibly its most significant anime I will ever watch, also is not OP a little too late making this thread? I see people say things like this a lot but when does this normalfag catering ever starts to become a problem? Monogatari always had shit for the casual and otaku watchers, and you could even make an argument that some of the latter things have less casual appeal, like the loli heavy parts involving Hachikuji, Shinobu and Ononoki all at the same time that end with Araragi and Hachikuji kissing, and the Sodachi chapters that got a lot of dumbasses pissed because it was "boring" and had no supernatural stuff.

I also know for a fact the toothbrush scene in nisemono is a pretty strong normalfag repellent. I know of people who straight up stopped watching because they couldn't deal with it.

I believe they were. Not constantly, but they were. And there are some extreme normalfags who won't even touch something if it has a lot of lolis regardless of how things are played, and in monogatari it's played with romantic and sexual tension, so it would turn off more than just the extreme ones. Parts like Shinobu Time totally reek of otaku pandering to me, in contrast to parts like Suruga Devil or Hitagi End which I imagine are the parts people are talking about when they mention casual and normalfag catering (and I don't think those stories are bad either).

It seems fairly unanimous that release order is mostly how you should watch it, but I see disagreement over where Kizu belongs. I've seen people say to keep that in release order too, to put it after Bake, or to put it after Nekomonogatari Black.

Kizumonogatari is very different from Bakemonogatari and if you dont like Bakemonogatari dont deny yourself Kizumonogatari. I also suggest starting with Bakemonogatari and going for release order if you like it.

To start with the conclusion, watch it whenever the hell you want as long as it's after Bake.

To get more in depth, think of it this way: does adhering to release order in an adaptation mean following the order of the adaptation, or following the release order of the source? If you follow the source, Kizu was released right after Bake, and nothing in Kizu itself is diminished by not watching anything after Bake first (though it's less certain if how you view the rest won't be colored by it afterwards). You have anons arguing about this mostly because Shaft was legendarily slow in finally getting the Kizu adaptation made, but there's really no grand reason why you have to watch everything except Owari S2 before Kizu. As an adaptation it feels very different from the rest and as the source goes most anybody interested already read it years before it was adapted.
