If I had one complaint about episode 9, it would be that this scene lacked it's, for the lack of a better word, punch. The sound of the punch was too soft and she was too fast in starting to apologise for it in the anime.

Not really though.
She needs to be more willing to ask for help, but less willing to just let Elias decide everything for her. Or, rather, she need's to make her own decisions, but understand that she can't do everything alone. It's not contradictory - it's just that Chise is a bit fucked up.

Is it me or does everything looks nice but boring? Kind of visiting theme park.
Characters are exposed but they were since 1st episode. Fairy tales are nice but usually they have more substance to it. They were about the story which just accidently had magic in it to lure kids. Traditional world of magic/fantasy or rather folklore is nice change of pace compared to "modern" anime but they do need a better story and characters.
>I was unwanted child and now I am thankful to a guy who rescued me from shit life
>also I am good looking and generally nice
Is this really the whole characterization you need? Was it told even once why she is not bitter? Why is she so trusting after a few nice words and a fucking bath? You cant have fucking apathy and appreciation(or any strong emotion for that matter) at the same time.
She was fucking kidnapped by a fucking dragon and all she felt was "well, this is kind of unexpected, but not overly so."
And the plot "you are going to die!!! unless author decides not to kill you, because author did not established any rules". Of course author decides everything, but author supposed to create some illusion of fairness. If its decided fucking offscreen its fucking irrelevant.
This anime is basically "parent brings his new adopted daughter to Disneyland before she dies of cancer".

I love how the scenes in the anime follows the manga so closely. You can mostly tell exactly what page a scene is depicting. The last scene in episode 13 for instance, is chapter 20 page 25.
Kind of a shame that the anime didn't show sleepy Elias when that goat visited, but I guess it was a good way to tie the TV anime to the OVA through a music montage.

I think they went with general direction of anime. It could be good show for kids, it could be good show for kids with general old fairy tale lessons. But they decided to go with mix of things which will work great for kids and mixed some 18+ bullshit which are bad/useless for kids show. I personally mostly liked it in general, but I think kids would loved it if they adapted it for them. Amount they spend on visuals is insane. Its wasted on you, nerds.

Escaping sleep?
And its not about good vs bad its about weird shit vs weird shit. Or humans vs weird shit. Fairy tales does not see wolfs who eat humans in a forest as the ones who responsible for their death. Its humans fault for going in the forest.
Also if you wonder why Ashen Eye did what he did, its because he could . Forest creatures often represent justice and danger. If you are greedy, they will lure you to your demise. If you are smart you can outwit them or simply impress them and even earn their favor. Or you can just beat the shit out of them if you are strong enough. Basically he fuck around because he has nothing better to do than to fuck around with people, like any other trickster god. Not to say that any other fey-creature are to be trusted. They are not human, they dont think like human, they are not like you or me.
