 No.763611

Usually I only quit an anime because I get bored from it, or if it is genuinely, unabashedly awful that there is absolutely nothing to salvage it. Although the only show that ever led me to that point was Chocotto Sister (I think that was the name). Most of the time, when I watch something, I'll eventually see it through to the end even if I don't like it. I guess it's because watching something bad doesn't bother me too much. I don't have any regrets, especially when there are a few small points that are genuinely good. But for the most part, I enjoy it anyway simply because I'd rather not waste my ire on some thing that will not impact me the next day. I don't regret it. I even think it's fun to watch something bad with a lot of potential and find what the creators did wrong. You learn about what NOT to do with a story. But even then, something needs to pull me in for me to keep watching it, even if it's bad. If it's straight up boring, I'll eventually drop it.

>>763590

>Things I like keep getting ruined by normalfags parading them around and I'm left feeling ashamed of admitting that I enjoyed them.

>ashamed of liking something normalfags like.

Why would you let normalfags, who you absolutely do not need to be in contact with or even give much importance to what they say or think, affect what you enjoy to the point of shame? It's the same as people who hate a particular series because "the fandom" sucks. The fans aren't gonna knock on your door demanding you to engage in conversation with them. You don't need to listen to what others think or say. It's important to enjoy some thing by its own merits. In other words, don't let what others think affect how you perceive things.

I don't need to be in contact with them, they're in contact with everyone else. It's why that one autist shrieks about reddit whenever someone mention Konosuba. Same goes for the anon screaming reddit at the mention of Konosuba. He's just another person on some part of the world, and he doesn't need to have as much influence on you. Honestly, I think people have been throwing the normalfag label a bit too much recently, and it might reach the point where we will no longer be able to have decent discussions because "you watch a normalfag show. We don't have threads about "look what reddit/neogaf/[insert pleb forum} thinks about such and such". Opinions here are mainly organic, not because of a deliberately contrarian culture, but because everyone watches the anime they themselves are interested in. I only care about what other /a/nons think. I don't need or want to compare our opinions with those of outsiders because normalfags are repulsive, and it's my sekrit klub goddammit. Well, once you figure out who owns Western media and the kinds of cultural effects they're going for, it's hard to enjoy pretty much any of it. Nigs being promoted all over the place is just one example, and yeah, they're obviously hard on the eyes. It's refreshing to watch material that's made for entertainment without usually any subversive intentions. But even if this wasn't an issue, anime girls are still cute and superior to 3D, there's a unique comfy factor with some shows, and the amount of anime released every season means there's plenty of new stuff and you can pick the ones that suit your taste. It's also a good hobby to learn Nip, partly because it's an interesting language in itself, and a lot of their voice actors are really good. I'd be interested to know what other reasons anons have.

Oreimo, when Kirino's first attempt at getting her fanfiction manga published is met with unexpected popularity and it actually gets picked up for an anime adaptation.

Then she is absolutely destroyed when the suits around her try to change things and suggest changing the lead character's gender.

The absolute entitlement and spoiled bitch syndrome made me nope right out my video player. I could not even begin to feel sympathy for her situation.

Oh no, my manga idea I shat out over a few months is super popular but the anime adaptation isn't going to be completely faithful! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!

It wasn't enough she was already a fucking model who was loaded from photo shoots and had no hardship in her life besides enjoying fucking dating sims (which most people do while not being stinking rich). One bad thing happened in her life and the world came crashing down and everyone was devastated and it was just so melodramatic I wanted to barf.

I disagree, I feel that the way she and the other characters handled that situation was completely ridiculous for an amateur getting her first published work picked up for an animated series. Realize that this wasn't some magnum opus, it was just hobby fan fiction she put out expecting to get shot down in the first place which garnered pretty large popularity.

Furthermore, I hear about prototype Manga/Anime/VNs/LNs that changed the MC's gender for the final print for market appeal all the time. Maybe not from a straight adaptation, but I don't feel that it is hugely different considering what they were working with.

Not /a/, but if you want more soccer with super powers, then you should try Galactic Football, a french cartoon. It's about an advanced civilization in which the force flux exists giving different races super powers, but the galactic federation banned the use of such powers, with the exception of the most popular event in the galaxy, soccer. It's retarded, but it's fun. Though I should warn you the english dubbing is horrible. Webm related, it uses a mix of CGI for the matches, and traditional animation for outside the matches.

Now to avoid a ban, and also contribute to the thread, I'd say slice of life anime in modern times with zero to no action. The reason why I like anime, is because it can easily do what live action can't. The beautiful, majestic and fantastic backgrounds that go hand in hand with the way the characters are drawn, as opposed to obvious CGI backgrounds that clash with the real life actors, the fast paced and creative, though sometimes physically impossible, fight scenes, as opposed to the shaking cam that you see now in modern movies, the creativity of plots and stories(though not as much, as I would like to see), as opposed to the mundane and generic plots of modern movies, though to be fair you can't easily compare a 12-24 episodes anime to a 2 hour movie. This is why I like animation, whether it's japanese, french, american or whatever, but when a studio decides to do a slice of life, I have to wonder, what's the point and why couldn't they have simply filmed it? Why did it have to be animated, what justification is there, when it could have been a radio drama and nothing would have been lost.

The anime is absolutely garbage in all possible ways. They cut a lot of risquè jokes, reduced Endou to a goody two shoes whereas the games portrayed him as a resolute leader who is not shy to make snide comments on their rivals and all matches end up 2 - 1 with the power of friendship (whereas the games deal with getting your players drugged, the fatso finding a hentai doujin and being too unable to concentrate on the match and having the result of your amateur match hacked by a bunch of chan posters). Also the very first game lets you humiliate the opponents to your heart's desire and there's plenty of waifu and husbando material.

>>764108

It gets even more retarded. The evil coach from the first season/game is actually just a pawn in a much larger scheme that will create Captain America tier supersoldiers and is being tested on Japanese school children - Zeus Academy was just a test - the aliens themselves were MERELY PRETENDING to be aliens while using high tech classified military grade devices for their charade (also they're just naturally that ugly), they're all just brainwashed or egomaniac orphans, the leader of said orphans just happened to look almost atom by atom like the son of a dangerous weapons dealer (the feudalistic tier that could just overturn the government if he felt like) who died in a car accident involving a politician and whose death was scrubbed from the press to avoid national uproar, so he picks up this identical lookalike and his orphan friends and pretty much makes him the strongest Japanese to ever live, also they kidnapped the PM and the country just doesn't care about it. Endou (you in the case of the games) just trashes them through the power of being hot blooded, the weapons dealer is saved by the son lookalike and decides to give up his revenge to keep his new sons safe, also your former team mates that got hospitalized on the first episode are now mad with power and post transition Michael Jackson wants to pull a fast one on the govt.

It gets only crazier and dumber after that as turns out that there was yet another guy, this time a Brazilian Jew who just happens to have perfected the means the weapons dealer was using to a T after having supplied him with a beta version, his goal is just the same but he feels the need to win the World Cup as well because let's be honest that's like the only important thing that Brazil can ever achieve. Also the EU could have very well solved the alien situation in Japan if they sent any of their shittiest soccer players but never felt the need to, nor do they care that they're playing against someone who busted a terrorist organization, the Christian God exists and granted soccer to angels and demons as a way to fight without any human blood being shed, Endou's grand father was just MERELY PRETENDING to be dead and was oil drilling in the Congo Zaire where he raised a replacement for his own nephew who should get disqualified for using illegal tactics but gets away with it since he's black and actually good at soccer.

Don't watch or play anything after that because it just gets unnecessarily dramatic despite being almost a self parody.

The time-skip anime and games are even worse, with new kids and some of the first generation guys now as adults training and taking care of the new ones.

Without going into detail, after the second season/game of Inazuma Eleven GO, it got so bad it actually dropped the franchise's popularity and almost killed it. Level 5 went as far as rewrite a completely new plotline from the second season/game and pretend nothing of GO ever happened.

 No.771227

>>771138

Which is a shame, because out of the three GO games, Chrono Stones is actually the most fun one, despite being nowhere as entertaining as the earlier trilogy. Also, they're so desperate about killing their own IP by pandering to fujoshits exclusively instead of making good games that they retconned every game after the first one and basically remade GO 1 but set around the time of Inazuma Eleven 2.

>But as soon as they won some championship and got invaded by literal SOCCER PLAYING ALIENS, I noped right the fuck out. Was just too much of an ass-pull for me to stand.

Boy you're in for a treat.

The aliens aren't really aliens but just some kids powered by a meteorite in order to get the government to do a super soldier program, but used soccer as a thinly veiled excuse since the PM loved that. At one point they beat them and then rejects/leftovers from the Raimon team get in the program due to being neglected. Then the latter half of >>770944 happens.

Then in GO soccer is actually politics, there's STANDS (which later transform into power armor), time travel with a fucking talking teddy bear and FUSIONS (literally one of the characters fuses with Jeanne D'Arc and another with Nobunaga), Endou (the MC of the previous three games, now married to the manager) gets turned into a robot and dies or something. And then the sequel has actual, literal aliens.

Could've used more fanart of the girls in skintight uniforms though.

>>764384

Because we can't just have some fun Super Robot show anymore, now everything has to be the next Evangelion with forced drama and DARKNESS and that's gradually moving to magical girls too. Mazinger and Precure are the only ones keeping tradition.

Honestly, I don't think the fujoshi pandering is to blame for the retconning of the games after the first one. I think GO itself is to blame because from the Chrono Stone arc onwards it became way too stupid, even for the show itself and the fujoshi; so, what to do? Retcon from the most popular game/season and pretend GO never happened. They did that with Endou's grandson.

>>771237

I liked the original IE anime. The optimistic approach and The Power of Friendship premise took me back to the early Pokemon days. I just dropped it after the first season of GO since time travel and soccer with dinosaurs was too much for me.

 No.771292

>>771253

>The optimistic approach and The Power of Friendship premise took me back to the early Pokemon days.

That, and it managed to put a few good variations; matches are usually quick, the local team gets BTFO'd a few times and one player doesn't end up hogging all the spotlight, MC being a goalkeeper and the variety of combined techniques helping side characters get more screentime and overall things to work with unlike Captain fucking Tsubasa, which is actually getting a remake next year by David.

 No.771294

>>771292

I will recognize that Inazuma Eleven does something well compared to other sports anime, and is that it knows how to manage match times. Matches are quick-paced even with the backflashes, hissastsu animations and strategy exposition. For all the sillyness and watered down stuff from the games, IE isn't as bad as other sports anime out there. It's become a gag in Latin America to laugh at Captain Tsubasa's season-long matches. I didn't know about the remake.

It also has some surprisingly detailed backgrounds.

>>771237

Endou technically did die in an altered timeline where he never existed because of El Dorado (who for some reason I just assume is some Latin American country taking over the world) messing with the time stream to prevent soccer from becoming so popular.

I think what's funniest with Inazuma Eleven is how much suffering in the world could have been avoided from the very first game if people involved in it had just stopped playing soccer. Endou winning the world cup, and his granpappy being a goalkeeping and coaching legend are the cause for every major incident in the whole world, Ogre has to go back in time because people became third worlders nu-males and would not be strong enough to handle warfare, in GO the whole point to 5th Sector was to create a Soccer Communist Utopia because people were losing scholarships just because they couldn't kick a fucking ball strong enough, all because of Endou's team, Chrono Stones has a similar problem but that gets resolved in the most roundabout way possible and whoever was in charge of Galaxy made sure that Ozrock was the perfect, most justified villain ever created for some other jrpg title, only to make the whole plot fall flat on its arse because they watched one too many times Space Jam and got the idea that people would be into soccer aliens a second time.

>Could've used more fanart of the girls in skintight uniforms though.

You speak the truth. Nips keep drawing them like /ara/s, though, so at least we can get some solace from that.

>Level-5 has this thing where they make successful franchises and then they can't handle it and fuck it up. Happened to Layton, to IE and now we'll see it happen to Youkai Watch.

You forgot their Jean of Arc and Dark Cloud franchises, too. Layton got the WORST out of it all, despite the game vs. Ace Attorney being really great. Also, YW is just too big to fail. I absolutely hate it because it doesn't interest me at all but I get shoved it down my throat from every single faggot I tell I like Level 5's shit, but Japanese kids are so into it that Pokèmon is basically second rate compared to it.

>>771253

>Honestly, I don't think the fujoshi pandering is to blame for the retconning of the games after the first one.

I heavily disagree. Look at the character designs for the various teams pre and post GO. Pre-GO you had so many of these ugly looking bastards with a coherent theme to their team and lots of personality. Come GO (and you can see signs of this in IE3) and every team has plenty of pretty boys and cute girls in it, with the designated fatso and designated midget, plus loads and loads of drama whereas the earlier titles were more like "the other team wants to win for honor, for cold hard cash, for that American-made figma" etc. The GO Galaxy team is an egregious example of this.

School Babysitters and Kokkoku. SB seemed like a cute, harmless show about daycare and wacky hijinks, but suddenly introduced a pedophile character played for laughs, and that threw me off so badly that I dropped it before the episode was over.

Kokkoku has a lot of potential story-wise, but after that sexual assault threat at the end of the second episode I've sort of procrastinated continuing. I'm debating whether to give it another shot, or wait until it’s over to see if the show is worth continuing.

I can think of two. There was an early arc of Heavy Object where some dumbfuck journo decides to be a big dick hero and aggravates a militia into starting a genocide of the local populace. The MCs, of course, don't treat him like the cancerous little fuckup he is and break him out of jail so he can "redeem himself." Instantly dropped.

I get the feeling the writer just has no idea of how human beings actually react to atrocities. He has the same problem in Toaru no Index/Railgun, where no one cares about the fact that the city council just casually orders the horrific deaths of twenty thousand children by a sadist. No one cares about the orphans stuck in a nightmare machine and having their brains fried, even well past the point that it can be considered a secret. It gives the impression of a deeply psychopathic society that just puts me off the series.

Freezing, though, I dropped like a fucking rock on the second episode. I've never seen an anime push that much retardation that fast at me.

>We're going to have our students compete in a fucking bloodsport for ranking! Sometimes they die, but who gives a shit!

Yeah, that's how you build the necessary camraderie to allow them to function as an effective military unit. Teach them to slice the shit out of each other to win on some fucking leaderboard. No way that can backfire into a self-destructive, poisonous environment with students constantly trying to stab each other in the back and traumatized to shit over being nearly killed over and over by their eventual allies.

>Oh, the arena busted open, and some rando interfered in the last fight of the bloodsport, literally pinning one of the combatants? And some third party was clearly interfering with the fight and attacking her? Don't care, the results stand.

Right, because there are no rules in this thing, of course. It's the goddamn thunderdome. Why not just hire some thugs to break the competition's kneecaps? Or bring a gun to shoot them? Or bring along some C4 and blow up their changing rooms? Much faster way to win.

But what really got me,

>Oh, the psychotic bitch who continued to attack a pinned and debuffed opponent decided the win "wasn't fair enough" and decided to continue her attack against an INJURED enemy, in BROAD DAYLIGHT in front of DOZENS OF WITNESSES, using FORBIDDEN TECHNIQUES, and eventually TORTURING AND CRIPPLING her opponent? Well clearly, they're BOTH at fault and should be sent to the brig!

Fuck. Right. Off. I'm not going to waste my time with some emotionally manipulative Li'l Brudder sob story bullshit. Couldn't continue watching it after that scene.

>some emotionally manipulative Li'l Brudder sob story bullshit

Shows I can't be bothered with are the ones with an MC who's too cool. In that they:

>Show no interest for the anime

>No real character, emotionless

>Get through everything with minimal effort

If the MC doesn't care about the anime I won't either, they're the sort of character who should be kept in the background and used occasionally. The rest of the cast usually interesting and it makes the focus on the MC worse as I'd rather be following people who aren't catatonic.

Apparently? I thought stuff like BHA and Anti-Magic Academy counted, but I guess they belong to different genres. Now that I think about it, I've dropped a couple of fight-heavy high school shows with fantasy elements, though I can't remember most of their names. They all seem to fall into the same rakes, in my eyes. Way overblown violence, melodrama, and basically the entire universe aligning to shit on the MC, who is coincidentally the most awesome dude ever who wins despite blatant cheating, skill difference, talent gaps, and sometimes literally not knowing the rules. Putting it in a military context just makes it worse. The author clearly has no idea how a military unit trains or functions, and just goes with what he thinks is cool, even when logically it should create massive issues in the story (what parent is willingly sending off their kid to join the fucking Battle Royale High School? Why does no one ever seem to know about all the horrible violence before they join? How are the graduates not all axe-crazy murder-hobos with PTSD like a goddamn 'Nam vet?)

>>784819

Yeah, it's a lazy and insulting way of trying to get the audience to care - it's either squeezing sympathy from frankly insane amounts of abuse (this is why I couldn't watch Hayate), or making the character so OP and "cool" that the universe just falls down at their feet. I wouldn't mind it so much in either case if I knew it was going to pay off somehow; I like morality plays, but most Japanese authors seem to hate them. We have a raft of shonen shows where complete monsters lose a fistfight and end up as the MCs boon companions (I hear Fairy Tale was especially bad about that). For all that I love A Silent Voice, the fact that none of the other characters who abused Nishimiya ever face any sort of comeuppance, or even realize that what they did was wrong, just burns at me.

And their focus on tragedy is sometimes just hilariously narrow and short-lived. I remember at the end of Anti-Magic Academy, after the MC's sister gets locked up again (she has to be perma-banned and magic-locked, or she goes full Tetsuo), he starts whining about not being able to see her, and all his friends come comfort him, completely ignoring his SISTER who is constantly suffering and just wants to die because she is a nightmare monster kept in a cage for her entire life. Or how everyone knows about and ignores the fact that Todoroki's dad bought his mother and repeatedly raped her to sire his children. We end up with Accelerator, after killing thousands of children, feeling sorry about it and getting hurt once, so everything's fine and dandy.

Because I'm a complete sucker, I keep picking up isekais thinking "Aha! The protagonist of this one seems like a decent dude that's going to try to use his immense power to fix all the obvious, rampant problems in the society he gets dumped into!" only to end up dropping it after a few chapters, once the hero gets his harem-slave train rolling.

Bah. Back to the topic at hand; I stopped watching Overlord, because I realized that Ain was a complete and utter asshole, and watching him fuck over the world so that he could keep masturbating to the remnants of his friends wasn't really appealing.

-The show is setup as a mystery from the beginning, yet the murderer is obvious

-The main character spends absolutely no time or effort finding out who the murderer is, only preventing one girl from dying

-The main character is 29 years old, and yet acts literally like a child the entire time. He even gets embarrassed when classmates tease him for liking a girl. Would you get embarassed if an 8-year-old kid teased you for liking some random girl you didn't know?

-He apparently actual does like her, making him a fucking pedophile

-The reveal of who the killer is is treated like a shocking relevation, which treats the audience as a bunch of braindead retards

-The murderer straight up fucking admits he's the murderer, the main character doesn't figure out a single fucking thing

-The murderer fails to murder main character, and to maintain some aura of having a happy ending, he suddenly decides he's not going to kill for the next 20 years until he comes out of his coma

-Despite spending 9 of the 12 episodes doing stuff alone and not talking to his friends whatsoever, instead focusing entirely on his developing pedophilic relationship with this girl, the ending of the anime suddenly decides it's entirely about the "power of friendship," because he couldn't solve it alone even though he had not once voice some sort of worry about needing assistance

I sometimes find that I "soft drop" a seasonal anime while it's airing. For example, I haven't watched anything past episode 3 of 三つ星. Not because it's bad or anything, but because it's so firmly average, and I was not invested in the material prior to its anime adaptation. Thing is, once the full 12-13 episodes are available, I can watch it no problem. I can't be the only one who does this.

Anyway, there's a bunch of stuff that I try to keep up with weekly. Yurucamp for being so relaxing and funny. Overlord since I enjoyed the novels, trashy as they are. Toji no Miko because I've been a fan of Shizuma Yoshinori for a good five years now.

Off season, I have some crap that I keep trying to start. Brave Witches is one, but I can't get past the first episode. I loved Strike Witches enough to buy some figs, so it's not the premise. I can't find enough of a fuck to finish it, but I have to finish it eventually.

I recently dropped Hitori no Shita – The Outcast S2. Why? Because its badly written trash. i actually kinda powered through the first season in binge watch, but S2 just terrible. They still haven't really done any world building. The characters are developed like trash, and the plot is just ridiculous on its face. I just couldn't stand it after episode 6 so i dropped it.

Another anime I am about to drop is Gin no Guardian. Once i again i binge watched the first season and got a nice comfy vibe from it, so i thought that Season 2 would be good. Instead what i got from season 2 is a unwatchable mess. The world building is non-existent, the game they are in makes no sense and neither do many of the characters motivations or behavior. So i will probably drop it after this episode.

Not for OP though. After all, in the manga there is a single page, in a single chapter, in which the MC reads a yaoi manga and finds a black character hot.

You are not the only one. I usually "soft drop" all but one show, and then take forever to get around to finishing the others. I did this with the Kino no Tabi reboot among others, and I'm currently doing it with Pop Team Epic, Darling in the Franxx, and Sangatsu no Lion, and that one might even have ended for all I fucking know.
