No the idea for tanks originally was infantry support, they were never intended to act as APCs. And to do that they would have to be resistant to at least light armaments. Anime is still a niche industry with a limited audience that is not cared beyond the success of shows (e.g.- the late 90s-early 2000s boom).

They aren't like vidya where it has evolved to a point that a console is as common a household item like a television set and everyone owns at least one copy of CoD or FIFA. There's 7 billion people on Earth, so a couple of outliers are probably going to enjoy both by law of statistic.
