You just don't get it. I'm only calling you a moron because you are. You're trying to be the big man who is "too good" for NGE and spouting this nonsense about how the show was mediocre and only remembered or liked because of the ending being "different", as if that's the way it was. In reality, outside your hipster little delusions, it was the complete opposite: the show was very popular during its run, but the ending was hated so goddamn much that Anno got death threats. Yes, all that garbage happening cemented NGE in meme history, but it doesn't devalue the rest of the anime, and certainly doesn't rewrite the history of what ACTUALLY HAPPENED.
>Other shows have done this since NGE and they have been REAMED AND ASSHOLE for it
That's because those other shows weren't actually any good, where NGE was. That's the difference! That's why it was able to survive a complete collapse at its conclusion, which should have destroyed its fanbase entirely and that would have happened if the characters and plot weren't compelling enough to make people want more. That's why they were later handed a massive budget to make two movies to bring their storyboards to fruition.
The way you bandy about buzzword terms, like "deconstruction" and "ART" and "psychological", and speak of NGE with a vague and non-committal air makes it completely obvious that you're simply parroting what you've been TOLD. I can almost guarantee that you've never even watched it, or at most have seen a few episodes here and there. You aren't even getting the number of "weird" episodes correct, because you merely have been told that "the last few episodes" were the zero-budget ones. As a point of fact, that only applies to ep. 25/26; all the episodes before that point were normal. For the point where "shit gets weird and psychological", you'd have to go all the way back to like episode 16 where Shinji gets sucked into one of the Angels and has a lengthy discussion with himself as a child, and meets the soul of his mother.
Even shitty movie critics actually bother to watch the movies before talking about them.
