Hopefully not going to be too much of a Shinsekai yori knockoff.
HS does not seem to be releasing this, Asenshi has it up with subs.
No.744835
I'm interested. The art style is pretty nice and the story is pretty standard, can't say too much about the characters just yet.

I thought it showed promise and the first episode had a good pace. I just need to see where it's going from here before I make a final decision.

yep it's a shinsekai yori knockoff. Art is nice at least. I wouldn't have minded more world building on the comfy whale island thing rather than "lol we're going now" but it wasn't jarring at least. Hopefully adventuring the sand sea will be comfy.

Define "good." Still a lot of things we don't know about them and their choices in translations, and that's aside from the nyaa debacle. I think one of their good qualities is their ability to arrange dialogue so the dialogue feels natural.

1. TV was already ruined and Netflix merely capitalized on the public's dissatisfaction with it.
2. What has Netflix done that's "subverting" anime? They fund the occasional anime adaptation, how is that ruining anything? Are they censoring the stuff they create worse than any nip producer would?
No.749379
>>749144
Netflix is sucking both viewers and anime creators dry, with all the money going to lawyers, codec patent holders, maintaining a bazillion apps, and superfluous DRM. And with their releases being months late and locked to proprietary apps, they still deliver an experience far worse than what pirates offer.
Crunchyroll, for all of its flaws, is much better.
No.749521
As far as I can tell, this show isn't completely Netflix "exclusive" like western Netflix shows, they just happen to have streaming rights for it. It's being aired on Japanese TV, hence the fansubs, and it will get BD releases and shit, so you can avoid Netflix all together.

So you admit TV is already ruined and that Netflix capitalizes on that fact, yet you can't comprehend why them taking advantage of anime is bad for purity of the medium? Wew.

You seem to forget that Netflix original anime starring Jaden Smith, let me remind you. Unless you think that this is not only OK, but somehow good? I wouldn't even be surprised with people like you.

This anime is interesting. I don't give a shit if it's a knockoff. The setting is original and creative enough, the plot is going places, and its got enough balls to knock off important and named characters right off the bat. It's instantly better than high-school anime #999999999999999.

Don't be so melodramatic. The source material isn't gonna change; even if Netflix is involved with one series (regardless of the other announced "original" anime), the original industry overseas is continuing on as if nothing happened.
The East is also a far larger potential market for anime than the West, with the current growth in China it will be only a question of time until the Chinese market will be larger than Netflix as a whole, and the former is already multiple times larger than the entire Western anime market.

The speed is slightly less than half a chapter per episode, so you can expect just over half of the source material to be adapted.
Manga is licensed but it'll be too late to be relevant, and I wouldn't expect the current scanlation effort to get farther than the anime either.

It definitely feels pretty slow at this point. I'm hype for next week now though.
No.757670
I have no problems with slow pacing, but the dramatic timing has steadily gotten worse and worse with each episode. It's absolutely horrible now. They managed to make the invasion of the Mud Whale boring. Every "dramatic" event felt as stirring as ticking off a grocery checklist. Coupled with stuff like >>749623, and the whole thing feels strained, overwrought, and contrived. I just can't bring myself to continue watching; the pretty art and somewhat unique setting isn't enough anymore to make up for the progressively awful direction.
No.760092
During the first episode I thought to my myself there was going to be some nuance to the writing. But, as soon as the second and third episode I was wrong. The sheer amount of edge this episode was ridiculous, so much so it completely undermined any possible emotion impact. The only reason to watch this is the visuals. Damn.

No.762615

Bow & Arrow does beat guns. On anything not heavily armored, they'll win out over a gun in short distances, have more penetrative power against ooblek-like substances (such as people's organs), and they tend to have a far greater control and tactical useage on a battlefield.
The issue is that it takes years of training to be good with a bow and even more training to be quick, whereas any faggot can learn to use a gun and shoot shit quickly at short range to the same accuracy as a journeyman archer in about 3 months. Guns are faster and easier to handle, plain and simple. Plus they're shiny.
