I'll help you out. But before that, the monogatari series hinges on its dialogue and character interactions, so if you're not feeling it you might as well drop it. Oh, and not matter what, the show is just a harem. That said, the series revolves around the paranormal, not so much how it affects the real world but how the paranormal reflects the real world. The animals that represent the girls are all meant to reflect their mental illness/state. Some connections are looser than others so I'll give you an example. The first girl, crab, trades her worries and fears (don't really remember what exactly) to a crab who eats them up but all takes her weight away. But what you should take away from that story is that the girl was so stressed and nervous she began to lose her weight and her strength, however, her worries had become so strong they actually became an apparition, a crab. Then araragi comes along and the first season begins. All the girls have a similar narrative device. 2deep4u?

Anon please. Get off your high horse. Monogatari has very mediocre visuals. It's simply very stylish and lots of contrast between washed out grays and sharp colors. But there is hardly any actual animation outside of the movies. Even in the OVAs it's just more talking. But there is like 7 aired seasons that look extremely mediocre that only consist of stills of mouths moving with the rare and occasional $5+ budget for a short fight scene.

I remember I loved Bakemonogatari because it was new and fresh. The style totally got me.
But then little by little I've got to hate this series. It has become a parody of itself with tons of pretentious talk that literally goes nowhere and where conclusions are usually some bullshit like "well just fucking grow up!".
The plot is full of bullshit, the kind of "travel to a different future pararel universe" or the kind of "the loli vampire basically fixes everything lol why did you try so hard?" or "let's make the same arc about the cat girl like 4 times in a row in different context but all with the same results and conclusions because why the fuck not" or "let's make a shitty mystery about a math test that is not even a proper mystery but is a good excuse to draw a new waifu".
It is a bad excuse to watch cute girls but thinking that you are an intellectual because head tilts and a cool style that has become stale and that is actually incredible mediocre as >>741292 mentions.
This doesn't change there are some movies, sakuga moments and some dialogues that are actually interesting, but it has become a cow for semi-intellectual elitist bullshit that actually just want to sell figurines and waifus to beta virgins without letting them feel as one. To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the Monogatari series. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of Jungian psychology most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Araragi’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Japanese existential literature such as Ningen Shikkaku, for instance. I’m ka-ka'ing right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Nisioisin’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. Take a look at LOGH or GITS and the faces there, and then take a look at moeblob anime. They MUST have weird hair styles, clothes and hair/eye colors, otherwise you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. About the only facial difference is eye shape - and that is only sometimes.
