The series involves gods and spirits from many different belief systems. Many people praise and think about the series to a point resembling worship. Some even seem to think that 2hus are real and take their personas very seriously. Some even perform blessings and rituals based on 2hu.

Gensokyo is just as "real" within its own canon as it is in our understanding of reality. As in, it's "fantasy." But the series still weilds considerable meme magic, and works like Alternative Facts in Eastern Utopia make it clear that events in our world have an effect on Gensokyo.

If Kekism can consider itself some sort of proto-religion, why not Touhou?

 No.50947

Nope, cause neither touhou, nor Zun want anyone to think it's real.

 No.50952

It is a real religion in my mind.

You take that rabbit thing way too seriously.

Does the rabbit thing still count if I do it a few minutes after waking up? My dad woke me up to have me help him put some stuff in his cars trunk, then when I went back to sleep I remembered oh it's 1st and said it.

It's not even based on 2hu; being a 100+ year-old British charm. Tewi is just the perfect mascot for it.

>>50984

It has to be the first thing you say. If you said anything to your dad first, no dice.

It'd argue its a religion in the same fashion baseball or soccer is a religion for its respective fans. It's a lot about group dynamic (consider how the Japanese fanbase often has a very poor opinion of the Western fanbase, and how people scoff at "secondaries") - essentially associating and believing to be part of something; namely the fandom.

Unlike actual organized religion, however, no baseball fan would ever pray to his favorite player for divine assistance, much like I would not pray to Kanako when I need help.

It would be an interesting social experiment to build up a small group of fake "true believers" who report that praying to a 2hu character actually resulted in divine assistance, and to see whether people in the fandom would later unironically interpret any lucky coincidences in their life as being gifts from Reimu or whatnot.

I believe in touhous

There are a few Touhou fans who do things like praying to Kanako. I've at least prayed to Hina asking her to take the misfortune out of this year and it seems to have worked in a way - it may just be confirmation bias but I'll assume that Hina has at least tried.

As far as I've seen, Yukari worship isn't that uncommon amongst the fanbase. While some do it jokingly, I know at least a few of us actually worship her - often alongside all the other Touhou gods.

Also, Deifying Reimu? As far as I can tell, nobody I've seen has ever thought of Reimu as a god. It's almost scary. I think she'd make a good god. Maybe meme magic will make it happen some day.

Sanae is described as essentially being a god, so why not Reimu? Her ability to go full HAX if necessary should fulfill any given conditions.

 No.51026

If you want to worship them, go ahead. People have worshipped all kinds of things. Just don't be a complete autist about it.

 No.51078>>51081 >>51098

Sanae and the Moriya crew represent the forces of modernity in Japanese society. They offer the people decadent materialistic nihilism and abdication of responsibility, while neglecting completely their thymos, the aspect of man that craves for greatness, the will to validation, recognition, and ambition. It's mountain hosts a hive of lügenpresse, sexual deviant technophiles, and atomized oni, all representative of modernity.

The Hakurei shrine represents the Japanese Liberal party's half-hearted cuckservative resistance to left-wing radicalism. It presents itself as traditionalist, but in truth works for a foreign oligarch Yukari to keep people as submissive fear farms so youkai can exist.

Meanwhile, the Myouren temple rides the diversity train by claiming that Youkai and humans can coexist peacefully (nevermind Youkai are required to terrorize humans as part of their very existence), while the Taoists sit in their pocket realm all days masturbating to Miko doing power poses.

What a wonderful world.

 No.51083>>51084

>>51081

Myouren is definitely representative of communism. They preach equality and fraternity, only to butcher the very people they claim to be saving to feed ravenous youkai elites.

 No.51084

>>51083

Diversity Train equals cultural Marxism, so it is rather self-evident.

Kanako is libertarian, she even has a recreational nuke.

But wouldn't it just be Shintoism?
