after doing jogging 3 times a week for 30 minutes the past 6

months, im fed up. im not planning on doing any marathons any

time soon, and the sessions typically increase estrogen and

cortisol.

so after getting bored of it, im going to replace my jogs with a

~4-15min HIIT sprinting session.

it will get my legs stronger and i will be much faster, without thinking

about a situation in which I would have to run flat out for more than an hour

this should give me immediate results in body fat content, as well as

getting my testosteron through the roof, not to mention it being short and sweet.

I know at this point of my training that there are no shortcuts to motivation

and that you just have to make a decision to wake up early and get out there

but there is no denying the attraction of HIIT

Which one of you anons implement HIIT (particularly sprinting or burpees)

into your routines and what have you noticed about your physique and

overall mood after at least a month of repetition?

https://www.bodybuilding.com/content/high-intensity-interval-training-the-ultimate-guide.html?awsubid=v030400011129aaf3e457b93b49cfbe7cc3a812e9c890-32020f8027b84cf69453a22d5886ee08&awc=6277_1557084681_a0c2681d56845895879872ad43e2f9c3&awid=6277&awclickid=143466&utm_source=awin&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_term=143466&utm_keyword=Sub+Networks

bump.

i know this sounds like a fat thread but Im far from it.

im mostly just pissed off at myself and others for encouraging jogging; that's something

that should primarily be aimed at overweight people.

i can say, however, that aiming for a 30 minute jog

has been a fun goal for me and now I have become totally comfortable with it, and even been adding a weighted backpack for the past month and a half because of how easy it has become.

so by no means am I discouraging jogging as a fitness thing.

I guess I've just graduated to the next level.

If you are on this board and looking for advice AND also in relatively good shape, DONT i repeat DO NOT start off with jogging.

I only wish to point out these flaws:

it's mostly a waste of time

fasted cardio is boring

HIIT is almost 300% better for fat loss and testosterone

prolonged jogging is hard on your body and feet, and knees

it increases cortisol which makes you more exhausted and slows recovery time

HIIT can also help build muscle

I hope I have added something to the knowledge pool with this.

There is plenty of information out there to support this but I hope someone that is new here can refer to this as something NOT to do.

I feel I have wasted enough time NOT losing weight and building muscle and wish for others not to make the same mistake; i could be way better off at this point if someone had said this.

update:

did 4 minutes HIIT sprinting after ~21 hours fasted

felt great

ate afterwards

super high HGH

high Testosterone diet made me feel even better

gonna continue my harder calisthenics routine tomorrow morning and will update as the month goes by…

edit:

for my breakfast after the fasted workout,

I chose super high testosterone boosting foods such

as onions, garlic, almonds, figs, eggs, steak, etc…

I also made a bomb ass oatmeal with cinnamon

and various fruits including mangos, strawberries, etc.

so that the combination of glucose(complex carb)

and fructose (fruits in oatmeal) and lean meat (steak cooked almost raw)

just made my insulin response that much better.

nah. when you get more experienced, you'll realize that there is an optimal mode where you're taking in the right nutrients, and expending calories that will affect your hormones.

update: i feel way better after a week of doing the HIIT sprints. the first day was only 4 x 30 sprint, 30 rest, then 3rd day was 4 x 30 sprint, 90 rest, and I will go up and up till I can do 8 x 30/90

the difference is I feel WAY more energy and just better overall. I feel the results will come with time

There is nothing wrong with simple sugar sources of carbohydrates. Sugar is not fattening. Body fat contains dietary fat. The foundation of ketogenic dietary advice is broscience and pseudoscience. You are mistaken. If the heart rate is high at rest for reasons that don't have to do with stress and adrenaline, then the level of energy is high and the organism is lively. A slow heart rate is reptilian. There is a reason mammals are warmer and have faster hearts.

Could you show me a source on that? Everything I can find basically says this:

“A normal resting heart rate for adults ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minute. Generally, a lower heart rate at rest implies more efficient heart function and better cardiovascular fitness. For example, a well-trained athlete might have a normal resting heart rate closer to 40 beats per minute.”

http://raypeat.com/articles/articles/heart-hormones.shtml

>The drug industry has been lowering the numbers for cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood glucose that are considered to be the upper limit of normal, increasing the number of customers for their prescription drugs. Recently, publications have been claiming that the upper limit of the normal range of heart rates should be lower than 100 beats per minute; this would encourage doctors to prescribe more drugs to slow hearts, but the way the evidence is being presented, invoking the discredited "wear and tear" theory of aging, could have many unexpected harmful consequences. It would reinforce existing misconceptions about heart functions.

>A basic property of the heart muscle is that when it beats more frequently, it beats more strongly. This is called the staircase effect, from the way a tracing of its motion rises, beat by beat, as the rate of stimulation is increased. This is a logical way to behave, but sometimes it fails to occur: In shock, and in heart failure, the pulse rate increases, without increasing the volume of blood pumped in each contraction.

> Szent-Gyorgyi found that estrogen treatment decreased the staircase effect, while progesterone treatment increased the staircase. He described the staircase as a situation in which function (the rate of contraction) builds structure (the size of the contraction). Progesterone allowed "structure" to be built by the contraction, and estrogen prevented that.

(It's interesting to compare these effects of the hormones to the more general idea of anabolic and catabolic hormones, in which more permanent structures in cells are affected.)

> The rapid and extensive alternation of contraction and relaxation made possible by progesterone is also produced by testosterone (Tsang, et al., 2009). Things that increase the force of contraction are called inotropic, and the things that promote relaxation are called lusitPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Unless I misread admittedly, I skimmed a bit, it looks like that is talking about normal and active heart rates which should be anywhere from 100-200 depending on how active you are being. A resting heart rate where you aren't doing anything should be lower for efficiency. A normal heart rate and a resting one are different.

There is no need for "efficiency". Food and resources are not scarce, so a conservative metabolism is deliberately handicapping yourself to hold out for better times that will never come because now is the time to live—not later. A slow heart means everything is slow, including muscle repair and healing in general. The heart rate increases with vigor and vitality. Endurance runners arrogantly assume their heart rates have slowed down because they have improved themselves. In reality they have incurred metabolic injury by running their bodies into the ground.

I workout 5 times a week. Noticed that if I do my program more than 4 weeks my immune system begins to weaken (slower recovery, acne, throat feels off).

For this I would recommend taking a *low intensity* week every 4-5 weeks after normal training (use half of regular weights + add low intensity cardio).

This will help your immune system to bounce back and prevent you from catching an infection.

honestly they are terrible if you eat them like that.

if you add them during the cooling down of spaghetti with organic meat sauce

it tastes extremely good, and allows you to eat them in large amounts.

you posted on 4/fit/ too right? good on you for also posting here. It's really a better board but it's too desolate.

although like some people mentioned it could be just due to natural swings in hormones.

Quality > quantity. Though quantity is a quality of its own so why follow a false dichotomy and limit to one? Sometimes it's better to spread the message to the widest audience possible.

I did.

I agree that its slow.

But at least 8chan/fit actually has fitness in its ingredient list rather than 4chan/fit "may contain fitness"

Kettlebell swings are the ultimate kettlebell exercise. 25 lbs is a bit light to start with unless you're really weak, but it'll do. You can also do kettlebell snatches and kettlebell clean and presses. You can get Pavel's entire "Enter the Kettlebell" video on YouTube. It's pretty good at covering the basics of kettlebell safety and the basic lifts I mentioned. I think it also covers Turkish getups.

Gotcha, I’ll check him out and look up the proper way to do those exercises, and I’m pretty darn weak at the moment, but hopefully I won’t be this weak for long.

I appreciate the help!

I know. I checked again today and the board isn't up for claiming, meaning that the BO has logged in in the last two weeks. but it seems like they haven't been here in longer than that anyway which really stinks. Why would he log in if he doesn't want anything to do with the board anymore?

>>147587

a couple pounds either way could just be water weight, too. I wouldn't worry about it, what matters is how you feel physically.

>How many cups of lentils will it take to get around 200g of protein?

~11.1 cups of prepared lentils.

Each cup being 198 grams, which is the customary US size for 1 cup.

This is the same as ~2.197 kg of prepared lentils, or 4.85 lb.

In comparison, you have to eat 714g of beef to reach 200g of protein.

He also calls humans obligate carnivores when he doesn't know what that means and it bothers me every fucking time. If you HAVE to call humans carnivores then at least say facultative since we can digest both.

Just eat loads of eggs, cottage cheese and/or quark.

And of course eat fatty meats and organs.

they're okay and convenient, but they're more expensive than protein powder that you mix yourself. I personally use Gold Standard whey powder, but only because my roommate left a huge bag of it with me, and I don't want it to go to waste.

I think you should eat real food, not protein shakes. Once my powder runs out I won't be getting any more. It is nice to be able to mix and carry, but as far as nutrition goes I'd rather just get a real meal in after the gym.

these are terrible and unnatural.

not to mention it doesnt make you want to veer from

sugary foods cuz it tastes like a dessert.

dont drink them.

often times they will have soy as well which obviously is bad for men and

decreases testosteron.

Alright /fit/ so I have been hitting the Gym lately as a step up from working out at home for a few months (started hitting it last week) and I am completely wrecked after working all round over five days (only like an hour session a day, with one day a week off is my plan).

My friend did say I'd be wrecked but I am not recovering as fast as I thought I would. Mainly its my shoulders, triceps and chest that are pretty bad. I have been trying to follow the 1g of protein for a pound of body weight rule in the last two days or so, trying to maximize my protein intake in the last week but I may be missing a few things.

So /fit/ what do? I mean I get take a fuck ton of protein but how the hell can I recover asap?

Yeah, you can't simply start doing heavy 5 times a week. Just take a rest for the first few months. You're not a soldier. Don't break your body before it can take the toll

some people recommend as low as 5sets 5 reps, only twice weekly. you dont want to get too worked too early on in your training.

you can also do 3 workout days, 4 rest days, and change your muscle group every other day

>how can I recover asap?

Protein, sleep, nutrition, avoid abundance of stress hormones.

Three full body workouts for a total beginner are recommended, because they can't get a very hard workout yet.

After that beginner phase it's common to increase the rest days to three after training a muscle group.

Good on you making experiences with how much rest you need, which is obviously more than you have been taking. Just going with an existing workout plan which fits your goals may be advisable though.
