This kind of thing (huge lovecraftian monstrosity partially hidden in the clouds) works better when you can't see much of it, in my opinion. I like the way the artist created a scene with different levels of light mixed in, cloudy in some areas and a bit sunny in others - this contrast, together with the alien threat looming above our heads, gives the picture a dreamy and yet eerie quality; the birds flying in front of the tentacles, as if nothing is happening, gives it another level of contrast, crafting a mood that is at once peaceful and unsettling; but then he drew the monster's head in such a way that it becomes the focus of the attention, and it looks like the Cthulhu look-alike is just about to attack that city, and there's also lightning raining down on the poor citizens - too Hollywood for me.
