The Earth absolutely is alive. It's bursting with trees, grass, algae, fauna, all of these things are both literally and figuratively connected and apart of this earth. The plants quite literally sprout from the earth and the fauna feed on those plants. All things are connected and the earth is a living organism in it's own right. The more damage we do to it the more it's "immune system" "fights back" through natural disasters. People fail to understand just how interconnected everything is on both a physical and metaphysical level. Modern "science" tends to see everything in a subjective way without seeing the larger picture.

The earth is just a big conglomeration of things. It's full of life, yeah, but it's not alive in the same sense as an animal or plant.
