Well our universe isn't so much a humongous void as it as fractal containing everything that physically exists, you can enter a metaphysical, meditative state and travel through it once you learn how to do it and practice, though it'll probably take a while to get to that level. Closing your eyes removes you from your sense of vision: a physical attribute.
