Tencent-Epic likes to throw a ton of money at publishers for exclusivity. Honest question about this: What if a dev took the money but was very clear publicly that they thought they needed another year and more money to polish up the game, implying the Epic exclusivity period was a beta? Would you be OK with this?

I'd be "okay" with it if they had just funded games in development instead of buying out games that were already announced and even released. Sure, sonyfags bitched at Nintendo about Bayonetta 2 but most people understand why it's Wii U (and Switch now) exclusive - it wouldn't exist otherwise.
Now, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't fucking buy any of them, that's for certain, but at least it would be slightly more excusable.

How about this.
What if a dev took the money and run? Is that possible? Do they try to ensnare you with contracts?
As for your idea, I believe tencent wouldn't be okay with having exclusivity ONLY for the beta since they're so greedy.

It wouldn't officially be called a beta, it would just be implied.

>Tencent-Epic
ackchyually Tencent has never owned a majority share of Epic. The most they've owned is 40 percent but that number has gone down recently. Tim Sweeney has always maintained majority ownership in the company

I wonder how much money Epic has made or lost with this whole store thing… because they sure have killed a lot of the goodwill and respect that people had for them.

Epic is basically golden since their SDK works on fucking everything and everyone else is actually retarded.
Hell, Valve is still trying to stick with the idea that Source 2's eventual SDK release should be STEAM MANDATORY, despite the fact that pointless steam integration has quite literally ONLY fucked them, and it'll alienate everyone that isn't already putting shit out on steam.
Also company engines are basically fucking dead.

I hear that the devs behind Rebel Galaxy Outlaw are going to make the game DRM free, while also taking money for 1 year Epic exclusivity. This means it'll be trivial for anyone to pirate their game as soon as it releases.
This seems to me like a shrewd way to take money from Epic while not actually making your game exclusive. Normalcattle will still buy it, I guess, but such is the way of this world.
