Played the original at release and found it to be a charming but somewhat shallow realtime 4X game. The trinity expansion beefed up the complexity somewhat, but the gameplay loop was still largely the same.
Am interested in looking at Rebellion, which is a kind of standalone expansion. Has anyone here played it? Is it worth getting or is there not enough new content to justify playing?
I'm particularly interested in new research options, factions, planet types and such like.

Only if you get it discounted, because its not worth more than 40 dollars, still its not that bad, its a little different though because I ended up getting the ultimate edition which adds the DLC, some of which is a hit and miss.

You might as well get it for the tons of mods it has.

The game has not changed that much.
Atleast that is what I remember.
It is interesting for mods though.

The game is great but the multiplayer is unplayable, so dont bother buying.
As of today it is impossible to resume a multiplayer save and good luck finishing a big game in one sitting.

How did they manage to mess that up? Isn't time for a sequel? This has to be Stardocks most well regarded game ever and it's ancient by now.

Rebellion is fun. The ship featured in your OP is the best titan in the game. It has ridiculous damage and range, with a sniper ability doing like 8k damage maxed out that can hit halfway across a large gravity well.

vasari a shit, that titan became shit the moment they nerfed its ungodly devouring ability, now it can easily be taken down by a level 10 discord battleship and a small fleet of disciple vessels and corvettes.
Not to mention as soon as its out of anti-matter it becomes a fortified paper weight, meaning you can bully it to death with anti-matter damaging ships.
Eradica titan is much better, no obvious weaknesses, only other titans can kill it such as the Ragnarov (literal glass cannon) or the Ankylon (only when its defending), but unlike these two titans its not limited to any specific role. Not to mention Ankylon also suffers against Discord battleship + disciple vessel spam + vespa corvettes. It can't use its ability and when it has no antimatter and revenge of the fallen means every ship that dies deals more damage than it has health (450 or 650 damage, whilst disciple vessels only have 425 health). ragnarov on the other hand is a glass cannon and easy to bully, so as long as you can get it before it can flee you'll be fine. It always brings a smile to my face when a ragnarov gets bullied by a small fleet of guardians

I main'd the TEC loyalists for a long time. I like the Ankylon and with a good fleet behind it is practically unbeatable, but the ability to blitzkrieg gravity wells and turn a 8 hour game into a 4 hour game appeals to me a bit more.

Bah, should have read more. My fuck up. Anyway the Ragnarov isn't that much of a glass cannon. It still has a ton of hull and armor since it is a TEC ship, and it's DPS more than makes up for what it lacks. It isn't a glass cannon even if it does value offense over defense, because its defense isn't bad.

Vasari Loyalists win again. I know the Titan is less than stellar, but not having any conquerable planets is the best feeling. The ultimate Russian Road.

Planet eating is only good for denial, and while I admit it feels good, if you can't overcome the enemy before you're out of resources you are pretty much fucked. TEC will likely overwhelm you due to their absurd resource income and Advent get more bang per buck in my opinion. Also their Titan is shit ever since the nerfs, I mean its useful if the enemy is unprepared, but as soon as they know you have one they'll just use proper precautions, not to mention if they have another titan there is a greater than 50% chance of you losing.to it.

i bought the game several times
first the basic game, then the trinity an the last time the rebelion and they are still milking it with dlc 5 bucks each which dont add that much to the game
so consider pic related

tbh I would agree that it is the best space RTS I've played, but thats only because I've never played Homeworld. I mean i did play Homeworld when i was 6-7, but after failing my first mission I never touched it again.
