Banjo-Kazooie captures bear essence fairly decently I'd say, with Banjo being a loveable good-natured klutz with a bit of a rustic or hillbilly vibe, which seems to be common or crucial elements in bear characters. Although, I can't think of very many other games with bear protagonists that aren't shovelware or kid's garbage.

Kind of odd if you consider that bears are fairly popular / common in folklore, literature, animation, etc. and that doesn't seem to translate to video games unless it's about a pre-existing property, usually for children and doesn't try as much to tap into the calm rustic woodsy bear vibes. People need to be encouraged to make more bear games. A game about visiting or talking to bears living in different parts of the woods or fantasy-esque worlds would seem fun. Sort of how Banjo-Kazooie or other platformers had you performing odd jobs for a plethora of interesting characters.

Both of those look ugly or at the very least, extremely uncanny. Those are still designed like people, just with Panda-esque elements. The smaller one in pic 2 is a little better but the human hair throws me off for some reason, it just doesn't look right. From a gamepoint standpoint, it probably helped to make them look more like people so they wouldn't have as hard of a time mapping clothing and skin textures that other races can also have. But the eyes also creep me out similar to uncanny early 2000s furry art.
