this includes ticket games as well, post best games to milk tickets from second pic is the best
My friends used to hold birthday parties at a local arcade and the ball drop (last pic) was easily the one we'd spend the most time on. Some staff member would have to refill it with tickets two or three times just for us to win them all again. There were other games that were more fun and arguably easier to win tickets from, but we always came back to this one. Probably because of it's simplicity, just press a button at the right time and that's it.

No it isn't. Gets them started into the rush of the addiction. It doesn't matter if it's funny money tickets or shit like that, but it simulates the feeling of using a one-armed bandit for kids if they do it a lot.

it doesn't get kids started on gambling because they're reliant on their parents for money/tokens/card credit. they can cry all they want but assuming the parents have half a brain cell they're not going to give their kids money to waste. if they feed into their child's addiction, then that's on them.

It just seems so much cheaper than a home console Neo Geo. The real issue is that it is a steep cost no matter what. The cabinet can be pretty pricey, and you have to find a game which are usually between $100 to $400 depending on how common they are. It would be nice, but maybe if I have some more to throw around.

Man, these threads always make me so wistful, but I love them every time. I don't really have any arcade stories, but I lived in Aladdin's Castle a shit-ton during the 90s.
>mom owned one of the stores in the mall
>got discounts for all kinds of shit
>would regularly hold birthday parties at aladdin's castle for a few years
>though used to also have a birthday party or two at pizza hut
>favorite games:
>smash tv
>crime city
>outrun
>mortal kombat was the crowd game
>giant tv situated over the arcade cabinet so the crowd could watch the fights
>arcade owners realized how popular this shit was
>mortal kombat, killer instinct and street fighter 2 got sectioned into the middle of the arcade, each with a giant screen
>once the n64 and ps1 came out, trips to the arcade started becoming less frequent
>arcade trips became replaced by regular blockbuster rentals
It never got nig-nogged or anything, because it was in a pretty affluent part of town. It's just that people stopped going. Even I stopped going because I got my PS1, N64, and our local ISP rolled out its dial-up service all in the same year, so I turned into a pretty hardcore PCfag when Quake and Duke happened.
I still think about that place a lot. Even though nowadays, that mall is half-dead and it was replaced by a Zales when I last peeked in. I still walk through the place in my head at least once a day. Feels bad, man.

I'm surprised someone preferred the original over '88, it has more depth and player choice than the original with addition of dimensions. Although, I would say Gaplus is the most interesting out of the classic trilogy with the idea that you can have up to eight extra fighters but you have limited movement before you start to lose them also you can easily upgrade your ship at the start of the game. Galaga Arrangement is also stellar, although I have not played that in some time.
My autism, though, is on the Dig-Dug games, specifically the original and Arrangement. I haven't played the sequel, but I think there were some deviations to keep it fresh. I highly recommend playing the Arrangemnt series as they bring a much needed update on Namco's trifecta of classics: Galaga, Pac-Man, and Dig-Dug.

'88 just feels kind of jerky and jank, though i really like how you can start with two ships in that game, it's the selling feature to me. i've never tried gaplus or galaga arrangement, i'll have to give them a go.
on the same namco museum i could actually go infinite in dig-dug as a kid, i really liked it, i'd just get bored after playing it for like an hour. dig-dug's a solid game though, especially since it's one of the arcade games that doesnt cheat at all. sometimes galaga feels like the bullet arrangements are cheating.

Some arcades are still around where I am. What I usually play is dance games. The 'main' place I visit has Pump it Up, and the oldest mall by far has an arcade that is basically 90s/early 00's as soon as you step in. It has:
>DDR (an old 2003ish mix machine and a X3 vs. 2ndmix one)
>Dynamite Deka
>After Burner Climax, two units (both are the ones that move the seat around)
>House of the Dead 4
>Taiko 4 (really busted and old)
>And a bunch of old racing games, including some Initial D ones
All these machines are used JP units, they even still have some paper signs with handwritten japanese on them. Best thing of all? The machines all use tokens, not that newfangled card stuff.

The game itself was a top down perspective of a car and you drove around, picked up cash, hit people and shot at cops to rack up as much points as possible within the time limit. It also had a cartoon/caricature art style and was set in America. I know of lucky and wild but it was definitely not that

There was an arcade near my house that i used to frequent a lot in middle school. Sadly it closed down when i entered high school. It's sad to see them completely wiped out in kebabland and get replaced with shitty net cafes with only LoL installed on their computers.
There are still some cabinets here and there in beach resorts, like related pics i found 2017, though i couldn't jump at all in SF3 because of broken joystick. Daytona one also had SFEX2, Tekken 3 and a relatively new rail shooter by SEGA in an urban setting it was set up like fighting game cabinets, with two different screens and the game was primarily focusing on local multiplayer battles. There was an arcade mode too but the AI was basically cheating by shooting you even behind a cover.
Also there's a small group i know from an online forum that organizes monthly meetings inside one of the few, if not the last remaining arcades inside my city. Too bad that going there takes more than two fucking hours for me.

Wait, you were even luckier than I estimated.
>Of the 1042 units sold, only 43 units were sold in North America, making Ninja Baseball Bat Man quite rare (especially in the U.S.).

Thank God they had Time Crisis and skeeball. I still had fun. I hadn't gotten to see them for a while
If any other anons live in this mercury-infested hellhole you owe it to yourself to visit the Silverball Pinball Museum. Pretty great arcade full of restored pinball machines.

My local arcade got turned into a timezone 10 years ago and got rid of most of their cabinets and all of their pinball machines. I almost have a photolike memory of it as I went there so many times as a kid, I miss the smell of coins and bubblegum.

There's actually another one in Florida, that I have visited with some friends and it was pretty neat. However, their MAME cabinets suck, it constantly lags when I tried to play Battle Garegga. It was kind of neat to finally play the actual cabinets of Tempest, TRON, and Gorf. The pinball machines were stellar, but I am more of a fan of lates 80s to early 00s pinball machines.

Oh man that's fucking tight. I'm looking forward to trying something on hydraulics. If you ever get a chance, try out the arcade flight sims. I played one years ago at disney quest, basically just doing maneuvers in a 747 but with realistic controls. It was a lot of fun despite being "boring"

Living in south america you can find 90% of the time arcades with SFs and KOFs. As a kid I always dreamed to own one and no to long ago I bought a cheap small arcade with multi-games running on it. I can say I fullfilled that dream. I know one can build his own multi arcade with raspberry but I'm to lazy.

You gotta check the coin return if you want to play then.

I've really gotten into DDR lately because there is an amazing rhythm game focused free play arcade only 30 minutes away from my house. They have several new machines you can't really get your hands on easily and an amazing group of players that does maintenance on the various machines. There are a few too many trannys that come on their event nights but that's what you get with the state I'm in. Honestly the only complaints I could make about the place is the size, the lack of older games (the older stuff they have feels mostly random and poorly loved), and the lack of people coming in to play games that aren't rhythm games. Also I recommend the people in this thread to check and see if they have any round ones near them. Its like if Dave and busters was significantly less shit. They generally have a bunch of cabs you can't legally play state side like the initial d games and groove coaster while stocking some other older stuff including fighting games like sf2 or weirder rarer stuff like rhythm heaven arcade or that game where you flip over a table.

I went there recently and all the controllers and shit were covered in grime. Those lazy cunts haven't wiped them down in months, its disgusting.

Oh fuck, I spent countless hours in this series, especially 3. I have yet to play the 5th one though.
