I know most people don't like having trannies or fags in DF so I made a mod that made all civilizations produce strictly straight entities.
I also added a few new weapons and armor and did some minor rebalances for them along with making all giant beasts trainable for war.
The mod also adds significant cultural variations between individual instances of a civilization so for example you could have one dwarf culture that is actually quite receptive to nature and another that absolutely hates it, while preserving the core dwarfyness that both cultures share. They are also far more traditional so individuals from different cultures of the same race will stand out much more from eachother.
Also I made goblins un-immortal and gave them shorters life spans but made it so they breed like crazy to balance it out.
Also I had actually optimized the civilizations themselves so the game should run a lot smoother in high population places as I had changed how many entities an individual civ produces. So larger worlds with more cultures are feasible now for players with lower end CPUs like me. I've been playing on a Thinkpad from 2006 in Linux and it runs pretty great for me in adventurer mode.
I've been working on this for months so there's too much for me to list but this makes the game very playable for myself and I'm sure atleast a few other anons might appreciate the changes.
Also elves, dorfs and humans are all white now.

Also new gorillaman race and ratmen have been buffed and have their own civ

The CPU will always be the bottle neck as most lag comes from individual entity interactions and path finding.
It can be optomized even further but at a certain point civilizations will seem empty if its pushed so far down. Dark Fortesses are still a bitch usually because of the sheer number of trolls since tbey arent bound to the same cap as technically they are a sub-type of pets as slaves.

The most lag I ever gotten was embarking ontop of a kobold cave that had like 300 pet animals living deep underground. They all immediately began trying to find their way to the surface but the cave entrance wasn't within the embark area so they were constantly pinging to the surface without being able to path there.

Dwarf fort is greatly exaggerated when it comes to computer requirements.
I have a $400 laptop I take when I travel and I can play a fort with caverns at 120 fps as long as I reduce population to 80 max.
It's when you have a fort with 200+ dwarves that are dispersed throughout a fort that goes all the way to the caverns.

The population, animals don't add too much, but dwarves have so much information attached to them, you not only have their emotions, likes, personality, features and religion. But then you have the history that involves them, seeing as dwarves average two centuries that can be a lot of info.
Cut your population back to 80, maybe reduce cavern layers to 1 or 2, make sure you're not on a shore where you have waves, keep to small rivers and consider keeping the worlds history to 100~

Has anyone tried to build a fort in zombifying evil biome without sealing off outside forever? Roomcarnage got pretty close to that. I did not have much luck with RNG to try it myself.

I managed to settle a sinister biome years ago, before undead died to fire and magma.
It lasted around 3 years, I had my dwarves dump animal parts after butchery into a lava chute, where if they did reanimate would fall out of the map since magma wouldn't kill them.
It all came crashing down when a wandering zombie goblin/dwarf (forget) so I send my legendary hammer dwarf to deal with it. Only use hammers so you're not making more undead through chopping of limbs
I didn't realize the zombie was trained in combat before he became a zombie, so my legendary hammerdwarf dies.
Then reanimates, when something becomes undead their skills double, so know I have a 2x legendary++ Hammer dwarf.
Closed my gate but forgot a section I was remodeling so he got in through a gap. First thing he killed was some of my geese, he didn't have a weapon so he tore them apart with his own hands making 20+ undead geese limbs.
Fort was a lost cause about 4 minutes after that.
I had a cavern colony I played around with but trader's kept coming and the zombie locals would tear them apart so I ended up with more and more zombies leading to lag death.
Now that zombies actually burn its more feasible as you can make a magma pit for dwarves to throw things in. Also SUPPOSEDLY digging down past 10 z levels stop reanimation but I've never had luck with that.

Regular vampires are just enhanced, responsive better dwarves that can't feel pain and immediately beeline for the nearest sleeping person- fatalities need to happen by feeding on a living entity over the course of three days, and the risk of them coming back as full vampires or vampire spawn need to be a feature- and of course, them being powerful by established age categories from 100-1000.
It'd be that much fun to deal with a vampire if they'd turn into bats, spawned aggressive animals on the map that come to their aid based on biome, and pass through openings in a gaseous form

That kind of defeats the challenge, the hardest thing about a vampire is finding it when you got 140+ dwarves.
Also vampires make great royality that you can seal off and never have to deal with again.
My brother had a vampire bookkeeper who eventually went insane (melancholy) so he let him out as he would feed off anyone, but because he had legendary level social skills (which is how my brother found him) despite being insane dwarves enjoyed talking to him.
I believe he died when a troll rushed in destroying a lever that controll the gate which prevented my brother from closing the gate, and in turn led to goblins entering his base.
The vampire killed a goblin in self defense but then another goblin came and bashed his head in while he laid crippled.

Dorf is bottlenecked by CPU cache first, then RAM latency, then SCP. Due to the ass backwards way Toady codes, the game will only lose its bottlenecks when its possible to load it entirely into the CPUs cache, which is a good decade away at best. What you can do for now is bank on RAM latency and SCP in that order.
t. someone who built a dorfmachine, 180-200 dorfs at 60-80 FPS depending on level of optimization, desperate mode runs at 90 FPS
Also heres a protip: load the game on a ramdisk, thats +20 dorfs before FPS starts tanking.

Is it bad I can't get into this game? I follow the stuff from the wiki guides, I try to play the game, but I think I'm just not doing it right. I just get the set up semi-started, then give up. I lose interest super quickly after trying to start. Does that make me a normalfag or is it just not my kind of game?

This, you go into a game with an idea of what you want to achieve, whether its a super structure, or messing with the games history.
For example last game I played I dug a fort, sealed it off then flooded 4 z levels above the entrance making sealab 2020.

All you need is a plot of dirt for farming and then a distillery.
Make plump helmets and sweet pods, use helmets for food and sweet pods for liqour.
Everything else is extra, like making eating and living quarters.
Farms produce so much food you rarely have an issue with supplies.
Just make sure you embark somewhere with a layer of dirt or its going to be tough.
