The way I see it is this:
If the game *assumes* you like a character, and starts portraying that character's actions through the assumption that you're already on their side, it has the opposite effect and causes the player to hate them.
Zinnia was completely retarded. Actually looking at her actions, she put the entire world in danger through various instances of assault and theft, and ultimately ruined an alternative plan without so much as explaining that she had a better plan, or that there even was a better plan. Despite all of this, she gets off scot free at every turn and is treated as though she still did the right thing. It's this disconnect and lack of attempts to justify any animosity towards her that causes said animosity to grow.
Marie stood out like a sore thumb among the rest of the cast, and many players didn't want to be around her. However, you're often not only forced to be around her, but you're treated as though you should want to be around her in the first place. Again, it's this disconnect where the character is portrayed as someone you like, someone you should like, that causes any dislike you have toward them to continuously grow.

Alright OP i'll try to explain why at least I hate Marie. Her personality just boils down to tsundere that writes poems and goes "youstupidjerkihateyou" every time she feels embarrassed by herself and everyone in the party puts up with her stupid shit no matter what and still likes her even though she screams and acts like a spoiled child at every given chance and instead of calling her out on it. And this wouldn't be so bad if they handled her well, but that would require rewriting every scene she was meant to appear in the game instead though they went with this.
Every single scene in the game except the ones later that were made specifically with her in mind the team is doing their usual story scene but at the last second the camera pans over going

Shes a Mary Sue to the point of oh wait shes not just some girl shes also the goddess Izanami who has lost her memory and in fact the final boss of the game was just split off from her basically invalidating the reasoning for Izanami to do what she did completely. Shes as mary fucking sue as it gets not only does everyone unconditionally love her shes also all powerful for no reason.
Oh and lets not forget that Valentines day event where no matter what you get with her, even if you already picked a girl.
If you want Marie to be good, start by having her shut up it would make her 100% more likeable.
