It’s nice for people who don’t have the 70 dollars to import, and the famicom style box and manual are nice editions.
though nicalis did cuck out and go for the “less offensive” promotional art instead of the original art that came on the Japanese “famicom” box.
The major downside with the English release is that I don’t believe it has the option to switch the language to Japanese for the nip reading anons, but I believe it was localized internally by the developers so I don’t thing there will be any tampering with anything if it’s just using the translation that came with the game when it was released in Japan.

I am a little disappointed they changed the visual style of the game, and I think it lost a lot of its atmosphere since they removed all the random Japanese stuff that was scattered around levels. I think Shun is the best the game ever looked, but from what I’ve heard Fresh is a pretty good entry.
on a weird side note, looking for nip reviews made me realize how obscure the game is even in Japan. I figured it would be a bit of a bigger deal there.

If you get the Japanese version from playasia or something, it has the English version on there but it’ll be 20-30 dollars more expensive. The English version was released officially, but it’s hard to come by a physical copy in stores so you’ll probably have to order it online.

The Switch can get games for both regions. It's just a bit of a work around, like having to make a nintendo account that is based in Japan, and then getting a Japanese gift card. It's a bigger pain than it needs to be, but it is an option. Piracy should work too.

Every store usually has some online resource for seeing the stock of an item. I’d imagine maybe Best Buy is your best option no pun intended. They’ve been stocking more obscure games recently. Gamestop didn’t have any in stock last I checked, but their preorders may be moved to the floor by now if the people who preordered them didn’t pick them up.

I had to stop playing the earlier games because their level design is just as sadistic or worse, but they use an arcade-style lives system and are riddled with instant death enemies and have a time limit. The best thing about Sayonara is the freedom it gives you to explore levels: the lack of precise physics combined with strict platforming requirements gave me conniptions.
I don't know if I'll be able to beat Shun because there's one level in particular that I spent multiple hours on and just could not fucking beat because of a single stupid platforming challenge at the end.

I'd recommend Copy Kitty and Pharaoh Rebirth+ if you want obscure platformers. The former looks pretty bad and takes some getting used to, but it's a very good game.

Right off the bat some things I like, others I’m not huge on. So far it definitely feels easier with the health bar, though the hunger meter sort of works as a timer.
Snapping up with the fishing rod is definitely not as satisfying as they slowed it down, and the world isn’t as comfy as previous entries. So far I think it’s the worst of the games, but being the worst of a series of great games still makes this a good game, but who knows, it might get better. The story they threw in there is a bit awkward, but it may get likable.

Cooking is done in the pause menu. You can cook dishes once you unlock their recipes, or you can just eat most ingredients if you don't give a shit like me. You can also skip the eating animation that plays every single time you eat by button mashing. You have no recipes in the challenge stages, but you can still eat whatever you pick up in that level.

Yeah, I’m going to go ahead and say that the move to Metroidvania was not a good one. Instead of levels you do quests that are way to similar to one another and you’re going about the same route every time. Hell, some of the quests were nearly identical with a couple different enemies. It’s a real shame because I was pretty excited for Fresh but the more I play the more I’d rather just go back the the previous entries.

I thought Sayonara felt a tad slower and more floaty at times, I also like the traditional art and animation over the 3d models. of course, all the games are damn near perfect in my book except for Fresh which is still good.

I hate to say it, but after playing Sayonara the difference between it and Fresh are night and day. Why’d they take so many steps back?
