No reason to upgrade to this, they're just patching hardware-level exploits and using a smaller process. Expect this model to get price drops, while the old model will rise in price on resellers.
More battery life is nice, but I want to see better framerates and resolutions in all games.

It's a refresh, not a pro model. Old model is getting more expensive to produce because Nvidia doesn't want to keep making the old chips. New chips will have better efficiency (hence better battery life) and cheaper to produce (old Switch hasn't had a price drop for a reason).

This makes the most sense, to me.
I don't particularly like it, but it makes sense. If Nintendo were to release a "Switch Pro" they'd effectively fracture the userbase, and run in to a ton of confusion from casual consumers. Remember that the Switch's userbase isn't just the usual nintendo fans, but also a bunch of normalfags, too, as well as kids. The Switch Lite is already going to be a problem if little Timmy wants to play Mario Party, but at least that's more easily explainable by a store clerk
>It doesn't have detachable joycons
But if the models had all the same features, and likely only looked slightly different? It'd be a thousand times worse than anything that arose over the New 3DS, or Wii U, confusion.

I really like these, but I don't think anybody else sees the appeal. The Splatoon 2 pink and green ones didn't sell well until they lowered the price drastically.

Indeed. The Switch's design, being both handheld and console is really underwhelming in both aspects.
Slightly off-topic, but the Switch Lite is probably the closest thing to a "normal" handheld Nintendo has released since the Gameboy Advance.

It's going to get a small performance boost in handheld mode because it'll probably run the RAM at the max 1600Mhz all the time instead throttling to 1331Mhz. The process node shrink also opens up the door for more games to use the higher clock rates Nintendo unlocked.
The absolute max clock speeds are CPU: 1785Mhz, GPU: 921Mhz, RAM: 1600Mhz. Nintendo originally constrained the Switch to docked speeds of CPU: 1020Mhz, GPU: 768Mhz, RAM: 1600Mhz and handheld speeds of CPU: 1020Mhz, GPU: 384Mhz (many games used 307.2Mhz), RAM: 1331Mhz. Firmware 8.0.0 unlocked a new boost mode where the CPU can increase to 1785Mhz in bursts to accelerate game loading. This has been demonstrated in Mario Odyssey and Zelda BOTW. The update also unlocked a new handheld GPU speed of 460Mhz which Mario Odyssey, Zelda BOTW, and Mortal Kombat 11 utilize. The GPU clock speed dynamically adjusts in-game in handheld mode so it can pick up the slack in more intense scenes.
Based on their previous history I have high confidence they will unlock the 1224Mhz CPU mode in the future and make it the new max speed when docked for both the new and old Switch. The CPU would dynamically adjust between it and the 1020Mhz mode with the option to boost momentarily to 1785Mhz for loading like it does now. If we're lucky they'll also use the 1224Mhz mode as a burst mode to speed up loading in handheld mode on the new versions. The new model might also get the 921Mhz GPU mode unlocked when docked.

The Switch Pro controller does 40 hours on a single charge. the battery life on the Switch revision is actually a very good increase, it's greater than what the Vita revision could achieve, and it's a step in the right direction since handhelds have been going down in terms of battery life and this is the first real push against that.
>>16701917
The hardware revision will be cheaper to produce, and it will be cheaper to use the lite SoC in both models instead of producing 2 separate SoCs. It's a win win, the only real problem is this is what the Switch should have launched with.

It's a handheld, one handheld, and it couldn't even give me the handheld's resolultion. It also stuttered like crazy half the game. 1080p? Burnt fuses = less chance of coldboot CFW by downgrading. Because CFW requires a dongle right now.

Should I get a switch lite or the revision?
Do you think the new models will be hackable?

I have a hacked Switch but TBH I'd like a Switch Lite way more, but it likely won't be hackable at least at the beginning. I hope the hackers will eventually find something but Nintendo is going all-out in terms of security these days.

The reason I don't think it will be hacked is: the hacking community has already given up on software exploits it seems, and the single hardware one is all that remains. Which they will surely fix in nuSwitch.

No, they're still trying to get a software one since the hardware one is already fixed on "new" (<2 years old) hardware. There just happen to be trannies stealing exploits and selling them to nutendo.

don't care, since masuda is treating the new gen of pokemon like a farce openly, I see no reason to spend several hundreds of dollars on nothing but bing bing wahoo or smash. I know there are/already exist emulators for this sort of thing, and since I can't transfer my pokemon, I have nothing to lose either way

Don't buy a Switch for multiplayer. In my experience people who own Switches don't play together at all. The console shines in singelplayer games, but the multiplayer library is trash.

I have one, I'd say don't, it's severely lacking in terms of library, and it's future is suspect at best. There's a few maybe good games coming soon but after that there's that blob of games that were revealed just as they were given the green light for development, and they are 4-5 years away from a release. Third parties have no real interest in supporting it so it will never have a library that will make it seem like a worthwhile purchase.

People say it's easy to hack a switch, is the current firmware exploitable or do I need to find a sealed console with the right FW?

FW doesn't matter (much) but you need a serial number low enough or it's completely unhackable (for now). I also think that on later firmware you have to run an exploit every time you boot the console, but I'm not sure.

Nice, I work at a second hand store that is frequented by double digit IQ niggers so consoles like the switch come by once or twice a week. Feels good paying 50 dollars for a switch knowing they will take it no matter how much they bitch because having a budget is racist. Reloading CFW is nothing considering I had a psp during the pandora battery days.
Yes, a customer actually told me that a budget is a way for whites to control minorities. Ironically, the same customer also said the word usury is antisemitic. Fuck cities.

They need to start releasing joycons with neat designs on them for players to be interested
How hard is it to add some sort of game themed pattern to the game color schemed controllers? These flat colored ones are quite boring sadly
Also I wonder if they will improve the joycon physical aspects as a result of this?
