What's the best video quality for a GameCube, OSSC or GCHD MKII?
17aa7e No.16689225
480i composite as G-d intended.
fc3b04 No.16689226
Also, is there such thing as an HDMI line doubler? I don't like my TV's scaling solution when playing sub 1080p games and would prefer just double or triple the lines with black borders
Basically an OSSC with HDMI in
And yes I'm retarded

A Wii with the HDMI adapter. Every other option is fucked thanks to scalpers.

Only if you don't need things like the Game Boy Player, also some Wiis don't have GameCube compatibility, at least not for the controllers. You can use some other controllers like the PS3 one with Nintendont.

if you are using the OG component or D-terminal cables then OSSC +480p upsample2x mode (no pixel repetitio). GCDual or GCHD MKII (with dan's latest fw) are great HDMI solutions with immaculate digital output.
>>16689226
>Basically an OSSC with HDMI in
you can do this with the OSSC by adding a cheap (but good) hdmi to vga dac (see image) and then just connect to the OSSC that way, and you can use its 480p options (line double mode or upsample mode)
>>16689252
No, you want a good Component to HDMI transcoder ($25) all the cheap wii hdmi adapters are total shit.

You can still get it for pretty cheap, however there is a company that has found out a way to make component cables for the GameCube which should be hopefully arriving this year.

They better not price them above $30. I like my games to look as good as the next guy, but I'm not paying an arm and a leg to get it.

They haven't mentioned the exact price, but word is it's going to be around $80 or so. Definitely less than $100. For me I don't mind since I'm collecting <6th gen consoles and their games, and I loved the Gamecube when I was young.

AND, dropped. You can pick up Component, VGA, and SCART cables for the original Xbox, PS2, Dreamcast, N64, Saturn, PS1 and several other systems all for under $20-$30 dollars.
WHY THE FUCK DO I HAVE TO PAY MORE THAN DOUBLE FOR THAT TO GET THE SAME CABLES FOR MY FUCKING GAMECUBE?!?

Probably because they have to do a lot of research and engineering, remember it's not going to be a direct connection to the system. What they will probably do is develop something like a small box/stick which connects to the GameCube and then decode the signal to then transfer it to the component cables. If anything it should be Nintendo the one to blame for the situation being what it is.

The research was already done. There's an open source github that explains how the digital port works.

I will always blame them for their restricted/retarded method of product distribution. I still can't figure out how a company that purposely undersells products remains profitable.

It creates artificial demand.

An increase in demand doesn't do anything if you're selling less goods than people are willing to buy. You either have to raise the price or increase the supply to match the demand.

What type of form factor are you looking for? and how big of a screen do you want? What's your budget? The most viable option I can think of for portable GameCube is a powerful 10 inch gaming laptop and use the latest version of dolphin. With what's available today for well under $1,000 you should be able to play any GameCube game at high resolutions with 60fps performance

Composite was only intended for those really old pink and cyan computer games that use composite blending.

if you go with dolphin on a budget laptop, the gamecube games to avoid in terms of performance are:
>need for speed series
>all star wars games minus lego
>gun
>harry potter series
>f-zero gx (use vulkan/d3d12 always)
>metroid prime series (use async ubershaders and not opengl)
>paper mario ttyd (only in certain spots, doesnt affect gameplay)
everything else for gamecube runs on a toaster in hd resolution; you can get away with intel hd graphics if you avoid these games (and maybe a few other fringe ones like tony hawk's underground/thug2/thaw or pikmin).

That's because it's very taxing for a PC to emulate a Gamecube emulating a Switch.

>WHY THE FUCK DO I HAVE TO PAY MORE THAN DOUBLE FOR THAT TO GET THE SAME CABLES FOR MY FUCKING GAMECUBE?!?
The GameCube does not have the component video encoder in the system, it's actually in the cable, originally as a cost saving feature by Nintendo. This is why there aren't really any 3rd party/after market component cables, they need the video encoder and it's not cost effective to produce one
