I would really like a game with beautiful 2d graphics.

The 3d is very jarring, and ironically its easier to program using 2d then it is 3d.

It's got alot of bugs. Hopefully they patch the game to make it more stable but aside from it being buggy as hell it's actually seem ok form a game play perspective based on the little bit I've played (while on my lunch break).

Gpu's really haven't progressed much since 2013 as silicon isn't able to handle the heat that further processing requires.

Video Cards for the last 5+ years has been focusing on power efficiency which does help performance but not significantly.

This is also true with CPU where companies have been purposely gimping themselves so their older products don't run better then their future ones, so that they don't out compete themselves.

For example my i7 I got in 2011-2012 performs better then the modern i7.

I built a computer to work as a server for my company and found the i5 outperformed an i7 which was $100 more then the i5.

Yeah they're spread around filling corridors, but not only that, some of them start flying like in SOTN and you have to kill them.

Also, when I saw the huge ass cat stuck in the hallway I stopped in my tracks and had to do a double take for a second, but then remembered about that backer reward. They give you a cool spell and drop cat ears, though.

The game is actually very good. I'm surprised, they polished aspects out of OOE, a game that I thought was already polished as it was. More complexity.

Only downside is 3d graphics but the game itself is very fun.

Voice acting is fine. They even have the option to reduce input delay.

All the positive feedback is making me tempted to give the game a whirl but my autism is still flared up over the backer portraits, still kinda fanny flim-flammed it's not 2D and there's things about the aesthetics that rub the wrong way, mostly how every other model is noticeably worse than Miriam's and a lot of the enemy designs - they're either bland and generic or aimlessly overdesigned. GOG updates suck, assuming you can get them at all because GOG gets updates later and sometimes never. If you are going to be pirating the game anyway, the Steam version is the preferred version to pirate, it usually will get better support and be easier to deal with.

On the topic, I've only played it a little. The combat seems stiff and the special moves (eg quarter circle forward + X for the boots) seem really finicky and hard to pull off. Yes, a combo as simple as QCF is hard to pull off in this game, especially when you are expected to do it three times in quick succession at a specific height in midair. However, the game does make for some good Japanese practice. It's got fully voiced dialog with manual text advancement and the vocabulary and grammar isn't all that difficult after the introduction (which is automatic-advance, but freezes while you alt-tab in boarderless mode so you can pause it whenever you like)

Not all Metroidvanias are the same. That's why the term is pretty despised.

Hollow Knight is more comparable to Metroid, with a single main weapon and few other options, and an atmosphere that's more monotone and simpler than the variety found in Castlevania castle. SotN and other IGAvanias (this one as well apparently) give you a whole bunch of options in terms of attacking.

Textures aren't so highres, polycount isn't that high (and it shows; depending on what the artstyle is like, this wouldn't have been a problem) and the overall art direction feels like it demands higher technical capabilities on the engine. okay, i thought this is going to be a shit game but this is fun. all of the stage design is total shit as usual, i just wanted another curse of the moon

The shader in this game is hot garbage. I honestly think if they changed it nobody would be complaining.

But enough about the graphics. I'm two hours in and the gameplay is pretty good. I like the different weapon types acting slightly different so you have to decide between fast and weak or slow and strong.

And equipment changing (some) of your appearance. That's a nice touch.

I think SOTN is still the pinnacle of Castlevania but I'll have to play through it and see. This game is definitely worth a pirate though if you're not sure whether it's worth your time or not.

What I've played of it is okay. But I just went through Blaster Master Zero so I'm a bit burned out on side scrolling metroidvanias for awhile and will probably wait and pick up again later.

I went 3 hours/20% of the map, the game feels like the best parts of aria and ecclesia smashed together.

Yes, except for the shit with that canon sub weapon that hurts if you're too close to the blast that they then make you use in cramped areas. And the annoying as fuck bullet sponge mutants in the later overhead dungeons that force you to stealth around them if you don't have your gun powered up to any of the higher grade wall piecing bullet types. But that was more tedious then difficult. Also having wildly different gun effects but also keeping the 'damage depowers your gun' mechanic was questionable design. Particularly when you hit that point where you're in a fight, you take damage and your gun suddenly starts making a useless shield instead of shooting bullets and you have to fumble around to down switch to a good bullet type again.

I never saw him use a Real Impact, I never saw him use Royal Guard until the fight vs Vergil after dying 30 times and having his chat scream at him to use it all the while. As a matter of fact every bossfight I saw him do mostly involved him running away and shooting with Gunslinger. It took him a couple deaths to realize that Vergil deflects all of that shit. Absolute disgrace. I've heard that his Bayo playthrough was also a disaster.

See, the thing is, most people make the mistake of watching Vinny in hopes of seeing some sort of skilled play.
