Holy fuck these look awful. The 3ds pokemon games had decent character designs overall, even though the gameplay is garbage and boring but it still had something that didn't make it look like complete shit.
There's no interesting shapes in the designs. I know there's a meme that's been going on about the newer pokemon being over designed/having too much detail and not enough interesting ideas that can stand on its own, like I said at the beginning, I didn't mind the new pokemons (Golisopod is my favorite). But these are just clutters of nothing and unnecessary details; there's potential like the crow knight thing, and I'm assuming its suppose to be based off black knights who acted as mercenaries and was never tied to a lord, painted their armors black to both prevent rust on their armor and to never show heraldry (might not be accurate and its based off my memory I read years ago, I tried searching for the correct definitions but it just gave me nigger knights and we wuz kangz shit). But all I see is a fat crow with spikey bits of dark armor on it. The ones that are simple are stupid, like the first sheep thing. There's nothing interesting about it, its just a literal fucking sheep with two braids on its side.
The legendaries are by far the worst shit on there. Just duplicate the same dog base body, and add different clutters to each one and call them different. fucking christ.

Loads of people do that because they're being cautious since they felt the newer games didn't put out, but having pessimism is just a miserable attitude.
There's a thing such as cautious optimism, and it's not utter acceptance, but hoping from the best and actually criticizing based on concrete facts.
The designs are more person to person in regards to appeal, but the game is clearly improved, incorparating positive changes based on past entries, like the elimination of random encounters. But these fuckers really need to implement following pokemon. They have no excuse since now they literally implemented all these models that walk and shit, and have a huge database with all these animations and the processing power of the Switch can actually handle it.
that's my main gripe. Maybe it's an optional feature, I don't know.

It's actually quicker with overworld encounters because with random encounters, you have to include the time it takes to exit the battle when you find a Pokémon you don't want.

Nigger mathematically you'll be surfing through areas getting into fights you don't want when you backtrack. In fact most games with event encounters have a run away feature so you don't have to fight shit. Buying repels also locks you out of encounters until the step count is up, whereas in a 3d event encounter situation mons would run from you and get out of the way and you can encounter them at your leisure. Next, event encounters create tension in that the big foes will sometimes NEED to be avoided when you're low on resources. Given that it's not a problem in mon games because most of the hard content is relegated to battle facilities, it wouldn't come up here.
However, a random encounter/event encounter mix, if one isn't used sparingly like in Sun and Moon, can quickly become tiresome because the encounter rate is so high.

They did in fact make maps designed around it, in that the areas are fucking huge plains, and the dungeons are likely also going to be widened. Random encounters make it so that the perfect map is the smallest map, since random encounters are based on period of travel (steps) - random number in the pokemon games. Other games run on percentage like 10% per measure of distance.
Including both would fuck up up the game pretty badly unless the battling is very low-load, low-battle time and low-entry exit time.

Dreadnaw is appealing in a tough, rugged, but ugly kind of way and Corviknight looks sharp albeit edgy. The flora-based Pokemon seem to be consistently uninteresting and forgettable. I don't even know the names of the ones in the past several gens. I liked it better when pokemon were made to look like actual creatures that could potentially exist. This thing, just like the previous one, is a god damn weed with a face. Actually Pikachu's in multiple countries, not just Kanto.
You can naturally find them in Kalos, Kanto and Alola, and the whole Mimikyu thing specifically happened in Alola with the overdone merchandise thing making Mimikyu.
As for Pikachu being popular in Unova, why is anime popular in AMERICA? If you look at Pokestar studios pretty much all media in the pokemon world is centered around pokemon, so Pikachu is a brand. Other companies are named after pokemon, companies use pokemon, etc. There's a pikachu in Alola who's literally a movie star and so on.
Between the Kanto era and the Alola era, there was a tech boom, basically.
Also, the Kanto/Johto/Hoenn etc areas are based on rural areas of Japan, not the cities, since the focus was always on nature. Media doesn't really track in places like that. It's only when you get to places like Unova, Kalos, and Alola, all city heavy regions, that you get the whole pop culture thing.
And as for Pikachu being popular, why is Pokemon popular as a mon game over every other mon game? Why did it become a franchise? Mimikyu was a microcosm that emerged for the same reasons that Banette emerged, shit was thrown away en masse and ghost pokemon, for the most part, are the emotional remnants of the living given form.

I didn't like mega evolutions then, I didn't like Z moves then and I don't like Dynamax now. It feels as if the series will get a new boost gimmick for each generation only to be forgotten about in the next. It's bad enough that since gen 4 they have been introducing more assanine ways to evolve a pokemon and made a clusterfuck of clutter with hold items. Then Masuda removes any sort of good post game like Battle Frontier because "Casuals don't play it" which ended up ruining the Hoenn remakes, a massive downgrade to the good Gen 2 and Gen 1 remakes.
