The source code to previously dead game City of Heroes was leaked by an anonymous disgruntled dev back when it first shut down. Unfortunately, it was only leaked to the mod of the game's Subleddit, an Argentinian named Leandro. Rather than share it with anyone else, he created a group called SCoRE (Secret Cabal of Reverse Engineers) and horded it for six years, forcing anyone they let in to secrecy lest they get banned while he and his leddit butt-budies ran gay ops and discrediting campaigns on anyone who believed the game could be saved.
One of the players on the cabal server eventually broke the story, and the community has been up in arms about it. After being doxxed, Leandro caved and gave up the code. Unfortunately, he only gave up the crappy slapdash-edited code with his fanfic expansion i25 rather than i24 the last officially released version of the game. He's currently trying to keep power by faking repentance (while simultaneously asking for donations and calling anyone who does the same untrustworthy); after it came out that the PR guy of the first Discord was a futa clangfag from halfchan, a bunch of triggered trannies from the subreddit are trying to establish an """""official""""" server full of cucked shit like having to choose a pronoun role on their Discord or being banned and not being able to use the word "Fist" in your character name. Both groups are trying to consolidate power to their respective servers (Homecoming, Torchbearer, and Excelsior) via disinfo.
However, from my understanding (since I don't touch Discord with a 10 foot pole) a good deal of coders (about 70 in all), united under the banner of half/vg/ fag Dr. Brain, have decided to separate from Reddit and Leandro to make their own group dedicated to making i24 open sourced and available to anyone; they even have a server running.However, they're still trying to separate the i24 source (the last official version of the game) from Leandro's i25 (a slapdash coded fanfic expansion), and progress is being hampered by Leandro and his butt-buddies refusing to share anything more while trying to make an i26 expac.

Before you choose a power set, make sure to click the little green i icon up above and observe the damage values. Some powers do more damage than others. Looks like Dual Pistols has a couple of nice powers, but one of them has a 90 second cooldown, and the other a 15 second cooldown.

Melee primary with ranged secondary sounds like it would be better than the reverse. Rather than using melee as back-up for when enemies get close, you use ranged as back-up for when you're blocked off and the niggers get out of reach or pull the run-away for 10 seconds technique.

Sentinels are basically ranged Scrappers. Their primary powersets all lack "snipe" powers that Blasters have, but in their place, they have new situational powers, like Beam Rifle's refraction ray. Of course, this doesn't mean shit for powersets that don't have snipes, like Dual Pistols.

You could use Dual Pistols or Assault Rifle and Ninja Training as a Blaster, but Ninja Training is from i25 favelacode and won't be usable on a rollback to i24. Otherwise Arachnos Soldiers have a mix of melee and guns but they start as villains and because they're Arachnos Soldiers the game limits your character customization.

You will want SS AND SJ, No fly or teleport, that's an old meme that gets you killed by the bol flying at you running on walls and shit.
Blasters, defenders, and corrs are your main damage dealers. You pair up a fire/EM and a empath/EM defender you're golden. Throw in a second buffing toon and you're solid. OR scale up to have two strike teams working in tandem. Especially now in this distressed state of the game.
Haven't downloaded yet but talked to an old buddy and we're looking into it.
Used to have around 30 IO'd out level 50s both hero and villain. My main PvP had about 2.5 billion influence in IOs. Main PvE had about 3 billion in IOs. That fire/kin controller could drain archvillian level npcs of the endurance.

While you're learning the game any powerset is fine. Leveling alts is easy, and the picking autistically minmaxed enhancement sets is something you have to wait to higher lvls for and you will only want to worry about on whichever char you have the most fun playing. Hard to see how a powerset gels until the teens anyway.
Early on get at least 2 slots in your attacks and slot accuracy in them since missing sucks. Reducing end cost is good too, youll figure out which powers burn your blue bar. Build towards getting your combat and travel movement powers by 14 and stamina by 20 as far as pool powers.

IMO avoid these archetypes if you havent played before on your first char. Mastermind takes micromanaging pets and is squishy early. Controller has no dedicated damage powers so kills sloowly by crowd control.blaster is a glass cannon with kiting as your defense.

Can confirm it works on non-playonlinux WINE if you use the winetricks in the script (d3dx9 d3dx9_43 directx9 dotnet20 dotnet20sp1 dotnet20sp2 dotnet30 dotnet30sp1 vcrun2008 gdiplus). I don't know if any of those are unnecessary, the game crashed without all of them, and I haven't tried cutting down on winetricks.
I didn't manage to make the launcher work, but you can launch without using the launcher from the commandline if you use the commandline listed in CreamSoda.xml in the same folder where the .exe. This will allow you to connect to any server. Make sure you do it inside the folder with the game.
I noticed your script uses wine-staging 2.21 . I can play fine on the latest 4.7 wine-staging, so I recommend you use that.
The issues with libgluezilla appear to originate from mono on linux not having this component.
To play city of heroes I run these commands:

The first one changes the directory to the game's folder. The second one uses the commandline parameters taken from CreamSoda.xml to connect to the 4um server, on a wineprefix I made for this game only.
I noticed that in game my settings were reset, I had to reconfigure graphics/keybinds. The game didn't want to accept my input outside text boxes after changing the resolution, I had to restart the game, and then it worked. Sometimes the game crashes on launch, just try again.
I haven't had a chance to test performance very well, but at first I feel the frame rate is more stable and has no microstutters, however I believe it's still some 10-15% lower than windows.
It's not perfect because you need wangblows every time you use the launcher, which should be whenever the client updates and you need the launcher to download updates and you need all these tricks, but you can play on linux.
Here's a screenshot of the game on my gentoo desktop as proof, the window is clipped because it's tiled and won't resize, fullscreen it looks the same as on windows with no graphical glitches.

I'm using Lutris myself all the time and luckily playonlinux doesn't do some weird things with the prefixes folder so it should be usable by other programs. So you can execute this scrip with playonlinux and use lutris or anything else from the freshly created folder which I did. Though it could be optimized that it should skip downloading the same crap again if the other dependencies are already installed.

I think I found a relative good workaround for my constant input issue which is annoying as hell, no matter what mouse settings I keep fucking around in wine configuration and in lutris settings for some incomprehensible reason there is about 99%~ chance that the game completely ignores my mouse input but not the movement oddly enough, however as soon I change on its user.reg to use a wrong resolution such as 320x200 the game will restore to a different resolution it used previously and then the mouse input is back. Now it just makes me wonder where I can write the bash script that lutris can execute before running the game so that it screws up the resolution on purpose. Are you on Windows 10? Your answer should be no. If not, have you had Wangblows Updates disabled for the past few years? If yes, the issue might be that you are missing a single actually useful update for pre-10 Windows.
Programs written on Win10 might not operate at all on older OS because of some Universal C Runtime thing, and it usually throws a .NET framework error. There's a single windows update for this you can download manually.

Alright, I've managed to break and fix it at the same time. I raised the resolution and graphical settings and caused it to black screen entirely. After killing it and coming back in, suddenly I can see character textures again. None of the resolutions that actually worked managed to fix the issue, but the one resolution that made it black screen fixed it. Will post pics of shitty characters soon.

All Blaster secondaries as of I24 have a "sustain" power at level 20 that helps keep them in the fight. You can blame Mental Manipulation's Drain Psyche being too good for this sweeping change. And yeah, I'd recommend getting it.
You can still shore up some defenses with Weave and Maneuvers, but your best bet will eventually be slotting up Invention Origin enhancement sets. I'd suggest starting to look at them at around… oh, level 32, if you wanna go full autismo.
Otherwise, make friends with Defenders, Corruptors, or Arachnos players.

Oh no, I made a last minute mistake. Just get rid of the variables and apply the values directly so in this case $RESX becomes 320 and not $320 as that is invalid. You probably want to start the game with the correct resolution such as 1280x1024, 1440x900 or lower than that first as it saves those values somewhere else, then kill the process of this game and autorun this bash script. If the game fullscreen mode is a bit screwed but mouse input works anyway you can just go to your kernel terminal mode (tty I think?) and go back to your desktop which at least fixed for me. After dealing with those initial bump it should work normally now.

What's the deal with Arcane Flight and Ninja\Beast Run?
I liked the first since it was a nice combo of Flight + Teleport with a single power, but for some reason I can't actually augment the Teleport? However it got me wondering if it's worth it to pick that or if I end up missing out by not specializing with either Flight or Teleport.
Also Ninja\Beast Run were free powers that seemed to be halfway between Leap and Speed, which would mean not only one extra Power I don't have to waste on movement but they seemed pretty good on their own.

i'm not really sure what he's going for with that list of powers unless it's to slot invention origin enhancements for specific power bonuses to go ham on +Defense. (I did that on a super reflexes scrapper once, enemies at level only had 5% chance to hit, pretty fun).
problem is, one, you aren't going to have the invention salvage to build those IOs at that level unless this is an alt, and two, those power choices are subpar for actually leveling.
for instance, you don't need superleap or combat jumping for playing on the server right now, since you can just go get the free ninja run and steam jump/jump pack from the p2w vendor.
i'd just play to have fun until the 20s or so, then switch to the other build (you can do this any time at a trainer) and build it out properly once you've researched how to minmax. and if you really want a character with a gun and a lot of defense skill, the mechanics for that would be either a thug mastermind (possibly with force field as a secondary), or an arachnos solider since their tactical training skill is like leadership from the presence pool only its numbers are large enough to matter.

You can transfer crafted enhancements and inspirations by storing them in a supergroup base and taking them out with a different character, but since you can't invite an offline character, it's not something you can do with no external help. It's just something you can set up with help and then transfer freely.
To do it completely solo, you have to email it to yourself. Since you can't email items to a specific character, you need to mail it to your global name. If you don't know your global name, you can type "/changehandle new name" to set a global name, and then send the email to @new name.
