You can actually do pretty decent if you have a smaller group and can chain stuns and go for the right targets. Its been a while since I played but smaller groups did have a damage reduction of some sort, but it was heavily similar to MOBAs.

>The skills you get are based on weapons and armor, similar weapons are clustered into groups (maces and flails had one grouped Stat that gave you minor increases in damage and I want to say armor pen) but each weapon also had its own skill which determined the quality of the weapons you used based on tiers.
>Unique weapons had one or two skills which were different from a tier 6 flail, which meant different playstyles.
>Game play, although more like a MOBA than a traditional MMO means that there are skill shots for most skills, it also meant that you weren't playing a numbers game usually in pvp so much as a game of priority targets
>almost everything was player made, and thanks to their crafting system no tier lost relevance as the processing of materials meant that to get a tier 4 processed material you needed both the tier 3 and tier 4 raw materials. There was always a market for the low tier stuff because it was still solid (later tiers were good or great, but due to the death system making you actually lose things, it was less risky to take tier 4 or 5 and use that for pvp)
>death system punishes death, but keeps item overflow low because the items that drop have a chance of becoming rubbish, a useless item, which helped keep inflation from occurring quickly
>decently solid balance of pvp and over, actually solid quality tier materials located on the pvp islands,, with stronger monsters along with active groups roaming the map.
<the negatives
<Holy shit this game is a fucking slog. Even without getting killed (and you will get killed often) getting to the point of using better gear or gathering materials is a fucking time sink
<Pvp engagements can be a 10 minute ordeal or over faster than you can say "jump on the healer" once your group. Can confidently chain stuns and burst, you can roll quite a few people with competent positioning. On the other hand, one person makes the mistake of thinking a place is clear will get their team killed. Even if you have reinforcements, it doesn't always mean you'll win. Even groups with 20+ teams will get rolled by a 12 man or so if you can pull the right people out.
<MOBAish styled fighting means tryhards and rage quitters will flock and shit up the place
It wasn't a bad time but wasn't what I was looking for. I did think there was some decent things to it but a friend decided to mock some fag on dicksword and steal some low tier items for a laugh and got everyone else kicked for it, so we stopped playing.

You buy the expansions when they go 80% off and only ever buy adventure packs off the free DDO points you get by playing. These things often go 75% off
There is a insane amount of (almost repeated but somehow not really?) content and the newer quests show how better made they are
The biggest issue is that old quests give old gear that's unbelievable under powered compared to the trash gear you get
It's like what happened to WoW classic when WotLK talents and heirlooms came out, you could solo dungeons no probs until (and sometimes during) outlands
Forget any notion that you are playing a D&D3.5 game. Ranged classes outperform melee ones on the current meta

The fuck if I know, i went blind in the game and enjoyed until I noticed that my barbarian seriously underperforms, at least I am already 17 and soon will rebirth to warlock (paid class, bought at 80% off 3 months ago)
Supposedly mechanic rogues repeater crossbow are amazing, you can make traps, are ranged, got sneak open lock disable traps
Also, the game is about reaching lv30 -> reincarnate to lv20 and get a permanent small buff -> reincarnate to lv1 and get another smaller buff. You can do this 4~ times per class/race, so a whole fucking lot of times. The first 2-3 lives will be reincarnating at lv20 because 20+ content is actually hard and mostly paid, by then you will have already got enough free points (there's plenty of 'first time reaching 100 total favor, get 100 points once per server' stuff), although you can attempt to reach 30 anyways. I won't, since I fucked up and picked a barbarian as first life
There's two ways to play without friends, you solo the quests and enjoy the plot and whatnot, or you go into a pickupgroup that will most likely have a 600 health mage rushing through the quest because he is on his 32th life and enjoy the massive gains. I assume this game is amazing to play with friends that are on the same timezone as you
People are surprisingly polite and easy going, maybe because the playerbase is mostly adults playing with their families, or so was the impression I got
The whole attunement stuff is very much present on this game, so sometimes you will end up in a group for a quest you can't join without doing a huge ass chain first. Some quests are impossible to solo due to needing more than two player and the hireling don't cut it.
I wish I could give a list of priorities, like unlocking https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Key_to_the_City_-_Eveningstar as it's supposedly it's a popular quest hub. But that's the only one I know
Use the wiki, all the time, you get stumped, do it
I wish there was a easy list of 'solable' quests, it's also hard to figure out which quests you have bought and which you didn't. The ingame UI is terrible for this
