>Devs come up with 'Games as a Service' as a 'mechanism to keep the consumer locked into our ecosystem'

>Results in shallow as fuck games that follow the same gameplay loop as a gacha, most often just with a shitty bullet sponge shooter as a base

>Second generation games now coming out and focussing on the actual gacha meme of 'time limited content' labelled most commonly as "seasons"

>Have to log in to do 75% of all activities every day of every week for the 'season' or miss even a day and miss the objective, significant player power increases

>Each competing for your free time and want to be a second job rather than simply a fun gameplay experience.

Even Warframe is doing this shit now and i don't think theres anything i want to see go away faster. I even find lockboxes a more preferable cancer than this shit.

How many of you are currently falling for this meme and not even realising it?

I saw this shit coming 12 years ago with the addition of daily quests in WoW but not a single fucking person listened to me.

>timed 'seasonal' content

If that's the case, then I just don't bother. What am I really missing out on? Nothing, that's what. Fuck 'em, and fuck the tards who perpetuate this kind if mentality. It's mostly chinks.

I mean, you can simply not buy them and concentrate on /agdg/ing it up, since it seems that's the only way we'll keep our hobby alive once normalfags will stop paying attention to vidya inevitably, as all things have a shelf life regardless of what it is, and just enjoy your timeless product yourself with other hobbyists. No reason to get all uppity and throw a tantrum, they're soulless corporations that have found a better niche than us and will come to pay for it at some point, much like the NFL is doing to itself.

People have been calling out gameplay design that follows the pattern of "low risk, high rewards, long term commitment" with the added consultations from behavioral psychologists to make the best addicted shit they'll hook the junkie gamers.

The trouble is when older games follow suit. To use a simple example compare Destiny 2 and Warframe. Destiny 2 was a shitty sequel to a mediocre game. Nobody cared or fell for it. Meanwhile Warframe is years old and people could have hundreds or thousands of hours in it and now they just added this as the only way to earn a special permanent character upgrade that allows you to slow in much stronger upgrades for cheaper, causing a significant power gap. The only argument people would have is "b-but its mostly pve!" but if the new game loop is 'grind to death or dont and be left behind after you hit a hard wall before these upgrades' then its a sign the designer intends the grind to be the new way to 'keep up' and if you dont? then as new content is designed for the ones who did in mind you fall behind and the best case scenario is you are now shittier through no fault of your own beyond not wanting to spend hours of your day every day of the week chasing obtuse things like "kill 130 of these things that spawn in certain missions once or twice per mission".

If your gonna make this specifically about WF, then I’m gonna tell you that all the challenges are piss easy, DE said you will only need to complete around 60% of them to get the full rewards, and there’s almost nothing in the reward line up as powerful as you are describing, and that can’t be gotten elsewhere.

Fortunately I WoW already immunized me to the "Time Gated Content" meme.

>Pay $60 to install the game.

>Then pay an additional monthly fee through a subscription and/or an "optional" cash shop.

>Pad game time for more monthly fees with a grind.

<But you can't grind as much as you want to because of time gated content.

No. Fuck you. I hope the money you lust for so much somehow contributes to you a miserable demise.

I guess it is based on what type of lootboxes we are talking about. I think the cosmetic lootboxes are far (Overwatch, CS:GO) less cancer than this shit but p2w loot boxes (BF2 before EA removed them and sports games) are far worse.

Don't play shit games. Tell your friends not to play shit games. There are tons of amazing older games which most people never play, but they're obsessed with free to play microtransaction shit like this.

warframes just a recent example of older game adding this system in really. I find shit being added in later much more annoying. The fact WoWcucks saw a cash shop appear in their sub game and cheered is fucking mind boggling.

There was actually a massive backlash to that, and quite a few before even to other things, but the player base was completely eclipsed by more and more waves of newfags as the game was introduced to more territories and broadband internet became more available. I don't think even 5% of the people playing in ~2009 or so were there when the game launched and now it's probably less than a tenth of a percent.

backlash doesnt mean shit when most of them are still buying their "sparkleponies" anyway.

Everyone remembers the left 4 dead 2 boycott group who were all playing it day one like good goys.
