I wasn't even aware this sort of game could even go F2P, but I guess if you sell badly enough anything's possible. Apparently, if you don't mind only having 4 characters on an ASSFAGGOTS style free week rotation and no single-player content (little as there is in this game), you can play online for free over on Steam on March 12th.

Not that I would bother; the fact they gutted Exdeath's moveset from counter specialist to bargain bin Lightning with shitty "modes" and limited everyone's movesets because MUH 3v3 ESPORT BALANCE while simultaneously not providing a 1v1 option for people who don't want to play a shittier Gundam Versus told me everything I needed to know about this game, and the stages all seem to be vast voids of absolutely nothing – no hazards, hardly any platforms or cover, like everything's been turned into Order's Sanctuary without the grind rails. What happened to more unique ones, like Chaos Shrine or Ultimecia's Castle?

This kills any motivation I'd ever have to play games that implement such systems. Either make all of the characters have equal access to all abilities and governed by the same rulesets - or allow players to pick whoever the fuck they want and then just pallet swap to differentiate between them. But beyond that annoyance, it's a huge red-flag that the game is hyper casual and it doesn't really matter who you pick or how you play - because the entire thing is geared towards people who just picked up the controller for the first time or simply don't give a fuck.

Having to manage 3 enemies on screen, their attack patterns, and the stage layout would have probably been too chaotic for most people so they made the stages simpler. My main problem in the game isn't the simplified moveset but the lack of movement options. It's so floaty like later Kingdom Hearts games. No fast dropping, attacks that double as movement options, teleports, and similar things.

Don't lie. I know about the fact characters have only 1 HP attack compared to the multiple from the last two games, and there's no. Nobody really gave a shit about abilities either unless you were doing some cheesy Iai Strike or EXP-to-[Brv/EX/Assist gauge] shit with equipment or you were in EX Mode (which doesn't exist, RIP Gabranth).

That's sort of the problem. This focus on Gundam Versus style competitive team gameplay isn't exactly what drew people to Dissidia in the first place and what the game system wasn't built for, and trying to force it to be something it's not coupled with trying and failing to become an Esport, has cost a lot of what made the game unique.

The movesets being simplified and limited (Again I point to Exdeath as the most egregious example, EX Mode and Bursts, the stages, the lack of interactions, the "story" tacked on as an afterthought )really just a bunch of cutscenes you have to play online to even unlock), cutting prior characters (namely Yuna) to sell later as DLC, et cetera. It just really feels like a Square Peg Round Hole sort of situation.

The gameplay can work. I think if they changed the movement system to something that's more engaging like all the wall running and rails of the first game combined with character specific options. Give everyone a second HP attack and make it less about teamwork to do any sort of damage. You can expand upon certain characters to make them more team friendly and some characters who are good at soloing. That's just a start but I didn't play enough to really dig into the problems of the game.

Universal assists were a mistake. When every character can get out of any situation with an assist it gets annoying. Also boost dive can be considered excessive when it comes to movement. It's another movement option that they made while increasing the vertical homing of projectiles and increased boost recovery upon overheating. It's kind of not necessary for a game with tight movement that's already fast.

Also EXVS2 looks fun.

Each character has several HPs, but only one active in a fight at a time. (Except Vaan whose gimmick is 2 HPs.) You pick an HP attack best suited for your current team, e.g. if you get two ranged teammates with ranged HP attacks you'll use a close range HP attack to maximise efficiency. EX abilities are standard for everyone and also should be changed according to team comp, they're nothing like abilities in the previous ones. That's why you're not automatically ready before each fight - to see what everyone else has and change accordingly.

Moves aren't simplified, they're balanced for arcade competitive play. The previous games were action RPGs full of fanservice posing as a fighting game, this is an arcade fighting game first, fanservice second. Yes, this is a problem because the fanbase is fucking retarded, but the game on its own has merit.

You're missing my point. To compensate for this attempt at "competitive" options are taken away unnecessarily; whereas everyone could have multiple HP attacks at once previously, now everyone but Vaan's only got 1, especially since some characters either had their HP attacks changed to BRV attacks or removed entirely (Like Terra's Tornado or Zidane's Grand Lethal) all contributing to the "simplified moveset" feeling I mentioned. Why exactly? It's not as though the core of getting gang-raped by 3 people is going to change whether you have 10 attacks or 1.

You make a big deal out of these EX skills. Again, nobody cares. A good deal of these character specific ones (Garland, Kain, Bartz, Ultimecia, etc) are just "hit the enemies and you'll hit harder", are shit they already had in their base movepool to begin with (Cecil, Lightning, Cloud of Darkness, Kain again), or cannibalized from their EX Modes last games that make me wonder why they didn't just keep EX Mode to begin with (Onion Knight, Firion, Golbez, Terra). You want abilities with a real impact on the fight, the PSP Summonstones were probably your best bet for directly fucking with your BRV but having limited usage.

The fanbase isn't the problem here. If you made a Smash Bros game that played like Street Fighter and had absolutely no stage gimmicks and got rid of defining traits like Jigglypuff's Rest or the Falcon Punch all for the sake of balance, the fanbase wouldn't be receptive even if the game was good, because it's not what they loved the series for. Acting like people in the wrong for coming for Dissidia and getting diet Gundam Versus and promptly not liking because it's "more balanced" is retarded.

I'm baffled by some of these roster removals. Wouldn't ideally you take the base cast from Duodecim (save Feral Chaos I guess) and then add more? What on earth would make them think removing popular characters like Tifa and Gilgamesh from the FF equivalent of smash was a good idea. Save for trying to get DLC shekels, the fucking kikes.
