Because the same "complaint" can be leveled at REmake for making a lot of the rooms darker than they were in the original and if you're complaining about jump-scares you clearly haven't played the game, there's only ONE "jump-scare" in the entire game and anything that can be considered a jump scare is telegraphed from a fucking mile, unless you're a retarded casual who moves through a game without paying attention, which judging by the fact of you choosing an on-rail shooter over anything kind of gives it away.

Literally WHAT? An on-rail shooter is all action. Have you played OG RE2 recently? Because it was one of the most action oriented and linear games of the classic era. All of the extra modes banked on the action part of the game. The only action set piece in RE2make is the alligator in the sewers, unless you seriously want to count the bosses.

Darkness is just one aspect of horror and it doesn't deserve to be tossed aside simply because hipsters have abused it. Darkness is a device that, especially in games, has a strong effect because it evokes other fears. A big part of horror is taking control away from the person experiencing it. Situational awareness is a form of control and darkness precludes that.

I'd be really intrigued to see how it works, then. Maybe it weighs the RNG that the game uses in a certain direction. If so, it's a very subtle effect, and it doesn't seem to have any bearing on bosses. I have been on opposite sides of the spectrum. My first Leon playthrough had some ridiculous mistakes in it, to the point where I was unable to beat the penultimate boss due to lack of ammo (yes, the ammo which was there was not sufficient). Your run is just barely fast enough to outrun Mr. X and not enough to outrun zombies if they lurch at you while you are on red health. Turning is atrociously slow while running unless you use quick turn which has strangely specific application (you can quick turn to any angle in your front arc, but not in your back arc unless you do a straight 180). The best part about Darkside Chronicles' RE2 campaign was the moment where Leon throws himself through the boarded up door, briefly channeling Chris's boulder-punching to become like a human battering ram. It's the most cop-like thing he does in the whole franchise.
I find it funny that RE2make also borrows Birkin's death from Darkside Chronicles, as well as HUNK's "This is war, survival is your responsibility" line from Umbrella Chronicles. Combined with the recent references to the Outbreak games, the devs sure seem to like the spin-offs.

One is pretty much made obsolete by the existence of REmake, you should only play it for historical reasons and to laugh at the B movie cheese, 2 is good for different reasons than RE2make, and should not be skipped, 3 is also great, 4 is a great transition into tps gameplay and also has great cheese, zero is another locked camera classic one, kinda mediocre and too unintentionally cheesy, 5 and 6 escalate on 4's action, the survivor side games are trash, Revelations 1 and 2 go back to 4's "not full CoD" paradigm, and 7 along with RE2make fully go back to "cramped spaces, individual zombies are threatening and lots of tension" even though they don't use tank controls.
So REmake, then release order from 2 onwards, only play zero if you really want more REmake, skip 6 if you don't like the direction 4 and 5 were going, and play the Revelations games.

Lickers don't appear enough to really give you a chance to figure out those mechanics. It wasn't until after I finished the game I realized not holding run was enough not to alert them. I could walk full speed and be fine. Prequels always have that problem. They break the universe by being too important or not important enough. DMC1 makes no sense when you consider DMC2 and beyond making Rebellion Dante's main weapon. Since Day 1 RE has abandoned characters and not given a shit. Barry disappears into nothing. Chris disappeared into nothing and Leon did too for a while. RE has always been poor at following up characters until it became nostalgia bait. It couldn't decide if it wanted a long narrative story or to copy romero's one off zombie stories instead. It makes the series disjointed in the worst way. I doubt most fans can even remember every game that came out. I know I sure as fuck can't and I followed the entire main timeline from being a teenager on wards. Except even back then they made pretty clear Jill's story happens a few hours before Leon and Claire's, up until she falls unconscious, after which her plot happens after RE2. Plus the nuke is never shown in RE2.

The nuke goes off in RE3, anon. RE2 never shows a nuke. RE3 takes place one day before and one day after RE2. There's a small timeskip when Jill is infected in which RE2 took place. So no, you never play in Raccoon City post nuke. The nuke is how the outbreak ends because it was a fucking nuke. Nemesis isn't a tyrant. It's something else entirely they were working on. It's explained in Files in RE2 and 3 (as well as the Epilogue for him in RE3) that Barry moved his family up north and was going to go to Europe with Chris and Jill.

No, the main point of RE2 was Claire was looking for Chris. She learns through multiple files that he left and went to Europe after getting a PI to investigate Chief IRons and learning about the G-Virus. He was so important to the story that when they rereleased RE2 and added Battle Game, they gave him his own model with a completely different build for gameplay compared to others (the easiest way to see this is that he doesn't step back from shotgun recoil, unlike Leon and everyone else).
In RE3, he is also mentioned in Jill's Diary as well Jill's, Claire's and Barry's Epilogue Files all making reference to him, in addition to having his own Epilogue foreshadowing CV.

Gaiden explains why Leon couldn't show up, RE0 tries to explain the Mansion Incident (but fails), and so on.

It's the day before and the day after. Jill was out of it during the events of RE2. Outbreak is the only game that takes place in RC just as the infection gets out of control and it lasts up until the the end of RE3 when the city gets destroyed.

There were a lot of explosions in the city as it was falling, so it probably wasn't out of the ordinary at that time. The gas station, hospital, and a street ended up exploding during the final days of RC's existence. There were helicopters falling from the sky too and the zoo was full of infected as well.
I'm actually curious how far the infection managed to spread outside the city. That could be the setup for a new game. The woods were full of infected prior to RE1/0 and they were swarming around the gas station in re2. RC wasn't destroyed for another day or so, which is plenty of time for infected creatures to escape. Then you have the Army blockades and I wonder how those fared.

If they ever decide to remake Outbreak, I'd like to see some more survivor scenarios with at least one of them being some soldier stuck containing the outbreak outside the city or one of the sf guys who got sent to the dead factory. Outbreak was really great because it followed random survivors throughout the city without really having to worry about changing canon. We got to see the zoo, more of the hospital, the university, various apartment buildings, and more of the labs. I'd also like to see what it was like at the one football game at the beginning of case 1.

They could handle it better. From tactical point if you couldn't get inside a room your enemy was in would you still behave like a retard or you'd try to get into position which would benefit you? All it takes to fix such exploitable situations is improved AI or even level design and since player can exploit Mr.X like that it's still a design flaw, too bad improving both AI and level design requires competence, so we have what we have, AI of Mr.X is pure garbage which makes him a joke and exploitable like that in the first place. The only reason people freaked out or think he's somehow a huge improvement over original is that Capcom simply allowed him to open doors which modern tech finally allow, but this effect really doesn't last long. Remove this ability and he has nothing.

There's only two major things about it that can affect the RE universe: Linda and Yoko testifying against Umbrella in court, and the Daylight vaccine for the T-Virus. In theory someone could make that with many other games. The problem is there is no dedicated person or a group of people who would bother to do that and it's not that easy to rebuild the entire game from scratch, in fact it would take good efforts to rip all those assets, this is not even a PC game what makes it more challenging. The best we can hope for is another "remake" which will never ever be finished like all those ambitious remakes, so it's rather pointless.
By the way, I forgot that Capcom released the first two DMC games. This makes the situation with console exclusive RE games a bit more disappointing. Outbreak, CV and DC1+2 remasters is pretty much all I want to get from modern Capcom.
