Is there any game or genre that as a kid you couldn't get into, but now enjoy, or the opposite, a game or genre that you enjoy as a kid, but now doesn't pleases you?

In my case as a child i hated the resident evil games, i got resident evil 2 as a kid by my uncle and i always struggled to even get past the first 5 minutes of the game, even in the easy difficulty i was struggling like a little bitch, so i just didn't liked it.

now, i can play them with not much trouble, and is one of my favorite sagas even if it has become a little flaw nowadays.

First person games in general always used to scare me.

Platformers, mario always used to scare me.

Whatever that genre is called where you keep heading down, room by room. Defeating randomly generated enemies in randomly generated rooms and hoping for loot drops and managing a ResidentEvil4-style inventory system. Never got into it.

Any RTS game really, even the good ones. I was raised playing a lot of action-heavy games like Metal Slug or Starfox so going from a fast-paced shooter like those to the slower paced methodical planning of Starcraft bored me. Not the game's fault, it's just preference.

>Starcraft

Yes it is the game's fault

I grew up in arcades, started home gaming with a Texas Instruments 99 and Parsec. Later got an Amiga, C64, NES and SNES.

But for some reason, Doom gave me hell. I kept remapping the controls for months, got motion sick and were exceedingly jumpy.

I could play RTSs when I was a kid, but I'd just get enough resources/tech until I had enough and then deathball through the entire map while the AI was too stupid to counter-attack. Now that I've seen proper RTS play I feel dumb whenever I try playing one.

Dungeon crawlers

>or the opposite, a game or genre that you enjoy as a kid, but now doesn't pleases you

Smash Bros. I mean, I can still dick around in it for a bit, but I can't play it for hours on end like when I first played Smash 64 or Melee.

Same with RE, my father got me RE2 and Dino Crisis but i was too much of a pussy to enjoy them. Years later, i played both series to death.

Platformers, they just don't get my attention anymore.

Not exactly what I had in mind. I was thinking of more top-down perspectives. I looked up what genre the Binding of Issac was and it says "roguelike". I guess it was that.

fbc43a  No.16128078

Never played anything RPG or sandbox-ish (inasmuch as games like that even EXISTED when I was a kid in the pre-00's). Mostly I played platformers and later 3D playformers because that was pretty much all there was, and now they just bore me because they're solved and involve zero creativity or personal experience.

Nice contribution to the thread, faggot.

Fighting games. Probably due to my only experience being SF and Mortal Kombat and not understanding them. It took me until Guilty Gear to finally figure out how to play them.

the genre is indeed called 'rogue-like', the perspective is 'isometric'.

Diablo is an action RPG, not roguelike.

I could never get into turn based stuff or RTS and that has fucked me over even into today. I used to not like DMC probably because I was a scrub and quit it.

The old Warcraft games, sort of. I always got my ass kicked by the AI or other players, so I never really played them legit and always had cheats on. But I have great memories messing with the weird easter eggs, the map/data editor, and the things people put on Battlenet. It was an early introduction to modding for me.

RPGs with this style really bothered my eyes back then. Just the way it moved couldn't let me stay focus for mor than 30 seconds. Some FPSs did this to me but not all of them. As an adult, it doesn't bother me anymore so I would guess it was something with the TV or monitors at the time that made it unappealing.
