Crackdown 1 was actually a good game that sold off of the Halo 3 beta. Crackdown 2 was a lazy cashgrab but with zombies. 3 has shown no promise and its clear they have no idea as its been in development hell for so long.

This illustrates well a problem in every modern video game. The audio is atrocious. Every modern game does this shit now where the sound effects have no bass and they use a fake imitation of bass by turning up the treble. They do this purposely because everyone uses an LCD television with shitty speakers built in since HDMI requires you split the audio using a home theater device, which most people will not do. CRT televisions used to have much better speakers.
Stick your tongue out with your lips closed and pull your tongue back in quickly. That's the explosion effect. Everything is normalized to be the same volume level, so it sounds like a cacophony of shit. What a mess video games are now. Movies do this too.

The reason why it was in development hell for so long was because Crackdown 3 was never a real game. It's a real-world test evaluation of Microsoft's distributed computing model, wrapped in a game. The reason the rest of it is so lackluster was because they weren't really trying. Had things turned out differently, Microsoft counted on having a much larger catalog of strongly performing games - so the failure of Crackdown 3 would have ended up a blip on the radar. As it turns out, the games either didn't materialize or were complete garbage - and the strong performance of Sony's exclusives in the market put the spotlight on Crackdown 3 as desperate fans started to rally around it. This no doubt caused Microsoft to demand significant reworking to try to get it to meet expectations, but with no budget or time - there's only so much they could do. Even the core tech it was meant to test has been scaled back significantly to only apply to multiplayer mode - and even then, the destructable environments lack any sort of fine detail and the debris being calculated comes apart in large easily trackable chunks of geometry, which in reality looks far worse than even the original release of Red Faction Guerrilla from a decade ago.

Holy shit I came here to post this. The same generic piece of shit look, the same monotonous fighting routines, the same vehicle handling, and the same annoying colors and effects. And of course the map will be filled with side content nobody wants to touch, and the progression of leveling up your jumping skills (only fun thing about crackdown) will take all but 2-3 hours. And I thought Crackdown 2 was rock bottom.

Their cloud pipe dream where they could offload part of the processing the Xbox One (or future systems) isn't capable of doing locally onto their Azure servers. According to the sales pitch, this could give their systems near unlimited power that is scaleable to the application being ran… and gaming was just a benchmark application due to it's high volume and intensity. Eventually they want to be able to lease out computation for all sorts of commercial and private applications.
But the technology just isn't there yet, nor is the infrastructure to support it. Crackdown 3's delays were largely down to them trying to hammer out the cloud based tech - and as the public and industry focus intensified on Crackdown 3 as an answer to Sony, they simply ran out of time.

Not going to happen anytime soon, if at all. People are blowing the "Xbox on Switch" announcement way out of proportion. It's just a set of development tools that Microsoft had in-house which they are now making available for third parties if they choose to use them. Most won't, and would rather manage their own crossplay infrastructure - but a lot of indies which don't have the resources for that will find the tools useful. That's why it's being shown off at fucking GDC of all places, rather than being a spotlight announcement at E3 or Xbox Experience.
All it really is is the crossplay tools for Minecraft on Switch, being freed up to be implemented in other games. That's all. You might see Xbox streaming games on other platforms some day - but I doubt it'll be anytime soon, for the same reason you don't see Walmart open up Amazon ordering kiosks in their stores. Opening up a competitors store in your own store is generally not seen as a good move, even if you're getting a slice of the pie.
