Saturn did fine in Japan, Sega pissed off their Japanese customers in an attempt to cater to US/International customers. If they had stuck with the Saturn for a while and scaled back to Japan they would have been fine, then make a come back internationally in the next gen.

Pick one. HDMI is digital and IIRC Dreamcast was analog. Either they need to change the hardware to digital or they would just end up converting to digital which means quality loss.

The Dreamcast had a VGA adapter, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch, I think. Also, I don't think the quality loss would be any worse than emulating a PS1 or 2 in HD, seeing as how most of the games were 3D.

Ya know, this would be the one of the few classic consoles that would take advantage of this quickly dying fad. You can shove almost the entire library (that's worth a damn anyway) on the thing & make the VMUs rechargeable from the controller.

No other game is coming to mind, except maybe the sonic games which weren't really my forte but were fucking amazing on the dreamcast compared to genesis. Imagine a sequel to a game not only improving upon everything but just being fucking great. Those were the days. The fucking VMU or whatever it was called, you could play a tamagothi-lite if u had sonic installed on it. dreamcast does digital video on the GPU, just needed to be pulled from the pins. There's a mod to get HDMI out of it with no added lag because there's no conversion process taking place, it just makes the signal HDMI compatible and sends a raw digital HDMI dreamcast signal.

Also a good idea to replace the clock battery with a CR2032 (or larger cell) socket, so it becomes easier to swap out the battery when it dies again. I do this with NES and SNES carts, but I'll likely be dead before those batteries die again.

The NES is pretty different because it doesn't work like most computers have since the mid-80s. The HDMI NES mod is an expensive and complicated modification that subverts the PPU entirely and has it being modified by an FPGA, an Altera Cyclone III, converting it into a usable RGBS signal and then finally converted to a digital signal that complies with HDMI. It's not a good example because it basically subverts the entire typical rendering process of the NES' video by intercepting its rendering and sending it through a computer several times more powerful.

I think so. The last time I left the dreamcast on for about an hour, but that probably wasn't enough to charge it since it kept asking me to input the date.This is just a minor inconvenience since it can be fixed fairly easily though.
I think I'll just order a gdemu one of these days so I don't have to mess with the laser anymore. It's frustrating to see the laser working, having the console not reading discs and not knowing whether it's actually a laser problem or something else.
I just wanna play some good old games on original hardware.

The cells wear out faster than regular batteries, ironically. Usually due to the system being constantly charged while plugged in. The reason you have to replace with a rechargable is because the system is constantly pushing voltage at the battery, which can cause a regular battery to fail and damage your system.
