To this day I'll never get why Binary Domain gets a spot on TPS lists. The characters are fun to be with, that I get. The gameplay is still your standard TPS affair and don't tell me shooting off limbs is the reason because it's barely enough to fix a standard cover shooter where the camera and characters move like utter ass.

I think that only you can't reach a consensus for even a single game to be on the list (which is expected of any community), but there's also strong backlash for every game that can be discussed, ever. Except for old ones, PS1 era and earlier. /v/ is too young for that.

I played it right after finishing the first HL. It's much, much slower, has guns that feel like garbage peashooters and constantly forces you to watch not-cutscenes. They're infinitely worse than actual cutscenes because you can't fucking skip them, and they aren't even entertaining to watch as actual cutscenes can potentially be. The pacing is utterly fucked as a result and replaying HL2 was a nightmare. Also related to the pacing is the way the game keeps trying to be a rollercoaster, always flipping between "you're very vulnerable" and "you got some powerup so now you're easily defeating whatever it was that you were vulnerable to". There is almost no inbetween. It also was the game that popularized all this muh cinematic experience bullshit thanks to THOSE FUCKING UNSKIPPABLE CUTSCENES that show up every three minutes.

The gameplay and pacing were both massive downgrades from HL1. It's baffling how anyone can fail to notice these glaring flaws.

Also this isn't new, oldfags were fucking pissed about HL² because of how shitty it was mainly due to the very poor combat (while it's pretty good in the first one).

Hl² is THE game that made the video game go down the path "scripts and story" before gameplay, especially in FPS. Entertainment VS gaming.

People blame COD or Halo for it, but it's Hl² that did the job.
