b2b497  No.16040697

I was gifted Rising Storm 2 and haven't installed it yet, is it worth the 40GB it will take up? I haven't played it yet but I've heard it's been made much more casual than RO2, which in turn was more casual than the original Red Orchestra. What does /v/ think of the game?

658aa1  No.16040738

It's ok. Just ok. It clearly tried to be more like Call of Duty/Battlefield in control/gameplay. I played it for maybe a month and got all I could get out of it. Someone gave it to you for free so why not take a look at it? I don't recall it having cancerous DRM tied to it.

Is there much teamwork and coordination in public games, or is everyone aimlessly running around shooting guys?

658aa1  No.16040826

>>16040771

The game is set in a way that inherently pushes for coordination. There's the commander that can call in air support and bombardments that require squad leaders to mark locations. Squad leaders are moving spawn points and, in some game modes, can create a static spawn so you want to keep that faggot alive if you aren't him. So the commander and squad leaders are always trying to work together. The rest of the team is a mixed bag. I had plenty of games with both real teamwork and everyone running around like retards. Thankfully the SL spawn point keeps squads fairly close together no matter how retarded they want to be.

Casual run and gun game with jewish cosmetic nonsense. TWI are also SJW cucks. Don't bother.

Since your SL's job is to mark locations and stay alive so other people can spawn on him it helps immensely if he's not a fucking retard. If he is then GG. You can vote kick idiots and, if you give a good reason in chat, people seemed to vote along for the most part.

>Is it worth the 40GB it'll take up?

I put like 200 hours into it.

PROS

>the shotguns are fucking awesome

>seriously, getting buckshot kills at 125 meters drives people mental and it's piss-easy

>the sound design is absolutely top-notch

>flying helicopters is really fun, they struck a good balance between muh realism and being approachable with mouse and keyboard

>bayonets baybee

>on almost every single good community server there's great Red Orchestra level RP banter going on, so people are calling each other filthy GI or kung-fu slantgooks or whatever

>anecdote: the first time I played Hue as the US, someone on the VC team was micspamming Public Voice with old radio broadcasts of Hanoi Hannah and it sounded so perfect, complete with echo and everything, that I thought it was built into the map

>some of the community maps are surprisingly good; Firebase Georgina is my personal favorite but there are a ton of them that are great

>the shooting feels pretty crisp for the most part

>the well-populated community servers are pretty much all really fun, lenient on no-fun-allowed thought policing, etc

>thematically it's just plain cool; throwing a signal grenade, calling for danger close napalm and seeing the world twenty meters away from you burst into flame just when things look lost, complete with the sounds of Vietnamese screaming, is genuinely special and takes a long time for the novelty to wear off

CONS

>I sure hope you like Hue

>seriously, every single map-voting server will run Hue at least 75% of the time and I am not exaggerating

>graphics are great, but both sides blend into foliage really well, which means that a lot of the time you're going to get rekt by someone who's just hiding and camping

>the "balance" is bizarre at best: any maps that allow the VC to build tunnels (which are squad spawn points) are pretty one-sided, and the maps where they're not allowed to build tunnels they get fucking steamrolled

>machine gun barrels heat up after like two seconds of fire

>suppression is still total dogshit

>the devs are complete fucking kikes for three reasons:

>1, the cosmetic/XP rank up rate is absolutely glacially slow

>2, you can buy all of the cosmetics (and several that are exclusive) for real money

>3, I don't have the screencap from what they did to RO2 but they're just complete fucking scumbags, to the point where I am 100% positive they rigged the community map contest (the map that won, Highway, is fucking dogshit even to this day, several months/a year after it was released)

>the hitcode is absolute garbage and if you end up in a melee-range panicked gunfight it's a coin flip to see who killed whom

>the percentage of the community that aren't cool are crybabies, discord cocksuckers or just plain faggots

Overall, I mean, you didn't pay for it, you might as well load it up. It's fun enough for awhile, especially if you find a server you really like I used to play on the Bloodbath custom map servers and really liked it there

Bad Company 2 still has a more enjoyable Vietnam experience and is active

It's pretty good. I like it better than Bad Company since the time to kill is quicker and there is usually less grenade spam. I also like how the hud is less in your face than BC. Ammo count is more realistic. The matches also tend to have 50+ players which is a plus.

Scaring Charlies with ghost noises never gets old.

>had a commander who was vietnamese

<SWRAD READERS I NEED COODINATES!

>constantly on team mic entire game

>we're up against the walls of georgina, hard to push in because of how close GI spawns

>a napalm strike vaporizes a big push on the side of the base killing most of our team

>our commander in the mean time had run up to the front gate with his faithful radioman

>force spawns everyone who just died

<BANZIIIIIIIIII

>steamroll the last two objectives

>>16040697

It's ok OP, way more casual than RO2 and much less team coordination. You'd probably find it fun for awhile until you've played hue city for the 20th time and you've fought for the same hallway/courtyard all 20 times.

b2b497  No.16041448

>>16041180

Alright, I'll try it. I still liked RO2 despite it being very fast paced, I'll probably like this too. One last thing, how well do you think it will run on an i3 4130 with a GTX 950 and 6GB of RAM?

I played DH a long time ago and I still play it from time to time. Put like 150 hours into it, but had never actually played the RO1 base game. I never knew they went through that shit, makes me glad I couldn't get RO2 working and refunded it.

Who was the mapper being referred to in the 2nd cap?
