I remember years ago when I was playing Demons souls for the first time I got stuck at the tower knight. After several attempts I finally defeated him and it was like achieving Nirvana. Suddenly I felt better, games were easier and I didn't get stuck again until I got to king allant.
After that i went to monster hunter tri and defeated the barroth Been a while I might be getting the name wrong that i had been stuck on and had a 20 hour session of joy and hunting.
My gaming skill hasn't gotten too much better since then but it was great. More importantly though I really want to FUCK chun-li. I want to cum inside and pump her full of my seed and then keep doing it until we have at least 5 hapa children.

I've definitively gotten a lot better. I used to be terrible at games. No matter how much I practiced, I improved incredibly slowly. My friends would always leave me in the dust when there was a game we all played regularly. It was incredibly frustrating to say the least. It wasn't until about five years ago that something just clicked and I started to rapidly improve at every game I tried, even in genres I don't like. Not sure what happened, but I'm not complaining.

I used to be pretty good, but I peaked in my late teens or early twenties. Forget skill, I wish I still enjoyed video games. I've become the archetype of the lame adult that grew out of his passion: I get much more enjoyment out of cooking something or going on a long walk than I have from playing any of the (well regarded, new to me) games I've tried recently. Yet I'm still here.
052a00 No.16033553
I've played FPS games enough that I've reached a point in which my aim skill and general "game sense" carries over to whatever I play, which is satisfying. Of course it doesn't mean I'll be able to instantly learn something as nuanced as Quake dueling, for example, but it certainly helps to have the foundation.
On the other hand, fighting games still don't feel like they've clicked for me. I'm especially interested in Vampire Savior and 3S, but I feel like I'm stuck with SFV if I want consistent match-making at my level.

I used to be somewhat decent at fightan and Doom, but skill in marvel-style fighters doesn't translate well to other fighters as I have no good concept of neutral and Doom really doesn't prioritize aiming vertically so I suck at sniping. I blow through most 2D Metroids in one sitting, but that's mostly because I already know where everything is.

Not really, i don't stick to one game/genre long enough to master it, if i really enjoy a certain game i might do a new game plus/another run in the hardest difficulty but that's it, my backlog is too big, i can't afford to spend years on a single game, and if anything i'd say my skills have deteriorated, and i've been always been trash at fighting games and first person shooters.

Games like the Souls series got me better at games like them, such as action games like DMC, Bayonetta. Ninja Gaiden is one I beat recently as well. I completed F-Zero GX fully, especially that fucking Episode 7. First I killed Black Shadow then proceeded to win. But later on I felt like a giant pussy for doing so, so I just raced the next time without killing him. At that time I also didn't know that snaking or other momentum throttle moves, so I won purely by memorizing the lanes and bomb placements. It was so fucking amazing to clear that shit.
As for skills, my FPS skills is shit. My RTS skills are decent but I need to keep playing, but it is hard to keep up with Supreme Commander autists. One problem about improving my skills in pvp games is single player games. I have fucktons I want to finish and there is no time to manage everything.

It should be obvious that as a preteen I was a complete retard when it came to games. As a teen I had a habit of attempting to brute-force through a game rather that relying on any sort of strategy or finesse. That was probably due to having grown up with "Nintendo-hard" games with little or no complex gameplay.
I can't say that now I necessarily have better "gaming skills", because it's not at all clear what kinds of life experiences or general knowledge came from playing games, and which are just outside skills that can be applied to games. A lot of people talk of a "sense" that gamers have, about how games generally work that allow them to figure shit out without reading the manual or being constantly spoonfed instructions — things like when you're in a branching cave you can intuitively recognize which direction is where the plot wants you to go (to the boss/exit), and which will lead off to the side for some optional stuff or loot. But this could just be as a result of generally being a critical thinker and (for me at least) being extremely good at understanding a complex thing by analyzing its smaller constituent parts.
Certainly, now I can play games that would have boggled my mind back when I was a teenager and found Civilization II to be very difficult. Whether that's a "gaming skill" or just being a more intelligent and competent person is the part that is impossible to ascertain.

Same. I'm fried from a decade of slaving for AT&T. I play games for distraction, mostly just powering through timesinks like HZD, DewM 2016, and other plodding stuff. I used to play DooM, Quake, Quake II, Quake III, UT, AvP2, BF1942, BF2142, and Tribes 2 for hours on end, and I got to be pretty decent at them. At least, as far as my garbage computer and ancient video card would get me. Hard to snipe when enemies are less than a pixel tall at 800x600.
Ah well, those days are pretty much done for me. Years of injuries pile on, and nearly losing an eye in a workshop incident have put my headshot-hunting days behind me. I sort of want to make a classic DooM map, but ideas are stymied by the limitations of the game (no overlapping paths, and no vertical angles, really.

I'm stuck in kind of a negative feedback loop myself. I'm to that point in life where I don't really have the time to dedicate to games like I used to, but I still really enjoy the hobby. Almost quit years ago, but the fucking Dreamcast sucked me back in with promises of what could be - and then they went and left us alone in these darkened woods. Every so often I still come across games that light that spark and remind me why I keep putting up with this shit, but finding them is getting increasingly more difficult. So I just try as much as I can with what time I have left (both in the day, and in life), so I tend to stick to just normal mode and don't put the time in I need to to really get good at games. A lot of shit is left half-played, and a lot of stuff I've likely played and passed off on because I didn't get the real experience by not fully exploring and getting proficient at the game. Just chasing that elusive spark of a good game.
On the plus side, you do end up saving a ton of money in today's game market. Piracy aside, because I don't have time to fully explore games - DLC is pretty much a non-option for me. I don't need more of what I already don't have the time to play more of, and I'm naturally going to avoid MMOs and MMO/Shooters - anything with progression tiers they can shove full of lootboxes. What time I can spare to put into those titles, I find more satisfaction in throwing behind an RPG like Legend of Legaia or UnderRail, or Trails or whatnot.

Perhaps pick up hobbies that run alongside gaming, so you don't feel like you have to force yourself to play, and start loathing the idea of playing games? Art, mapping, sound design, maybe? I say this, spending most of my time sitting in the darkness, waiting until I'm tired enough to sleep for more than a couple hours, or until the hunger pangs roll around for a second or third time. At least I'm not spending time on /suicide/ coaching people on what it's like to die, so they don't fear suicide so much.
I spent a good portion of the last six months making icons for DOS games, to be used in Windows 3. All of six people can appreciate that.
