There's your problem.

The first one was the only truly good one. It was the only one developed by Capcom and had this unique charm of a Japanese game pretending to be a Western game but still with that Japanese flair to it. It was unique and really took advantage of the new hardware at the time.

2 was decent but just not the same, you can't really repeat the charm again if you repeat a once unique concept, a lot of things were the same really while introducing gimmicks such as crafting. And the later games don't have the same amount of detail as before.

I think 2 was a great sequel. The charm that made DR1 unique would not work in a las vegas setting, they needed to make the game a bit more westernized. Hell, I even liked DR3, I loved the idea behind it and the open world, even if it was too basic bitch easy and had this ubisoft open world game problem of sprinkling pointless collectibles around for no reason(What's wrong with just weapon schematics?)

DR3's ending, love the game or hate it, wrapped everything up, I honestly don't know why they even bothered making a sequel, especially one so horrid

Remove the time limit and you remove the whole point of dead rising. Even the fun sized DR2 DLCs had time limits, the only games aside from DR4 that were missing them were the DR3 mission packs, which were all heavily scripted and didn't allow for any exploration, unless you literally just wanted to fuck around

remove the time limit, and you remove the urgency and difficulty, and what's left is an uninteresting sandbox with nothing to do, a la DR4

Wow. To be honest, Dead Rising was really silly, even the first one, but this is the same case with Patrick Star, you take something "silly" and then you maximize it to the point it's annoying, Flanderization, I guess?

The thing I think I hated the most about DR3 is how they kinda ruined some characters like Chuck and Katie. Plus the idea of making the psychopaths based off the 7 deadly sins was kinda lazy. Only memorable ones was the drone guy and obese scooter fooder. Funnily enough the only reason the obese bitch stuck with me is because how painfully bad she was , was an insult. Otherwise it was ok, didn't like the final boss either.

What I like about the first game was the personality to it all. Every character, no matter how minor, had something going on. There was that nigger that shoots himself because he was wounded or something, can't remember correctly, the woman kidnapped by the cultists, the wounded woman you had to carry around, the older couple, etc. The psychopaths themselves also were sympathetic in their own way such as Steve Blum going through a Vietnam PTSD flashback.

This is what I liked about Dead Rising too. It wasn't being funny by itself to amuse you, it simply offered you a lot of tools that you could use to amuse yourself. The game didn't crack jokes, it wasn't wacky or zany. It was rather campy, sure, somewhat tongue-in-cheek melodrama surrounding its plot in that Japanese style, but it still took itself seriously within the narrative without unnecessary winks and nudges. Frank wearing a dress in a cutscene is less funny if everyone went "OMG FRANK WHY ARE YOU DRESSED AS A GIRL LMAO."

Dead Rising 2 lost a lot of that charm. A lot of the psychopaths were more like comedy skits than threatening villains. Very many of the survivors were vapid retards with some kind of jokey gimmick ("I won't let you save me from zombies because I'M NAKED!").

Just goes to show that Canadians are the fucking worst.

Dead Rising 4 is the biggest vidya related disappointment I've ever experienced. What a gigantic fucking let down it was (not that I was very excited for it to begin with). The worst part was the way they butchered Frank and turned him into some awful cunt that I was glad to see die in the end.

The only thing I know about this game is the CGI trailer they released, it actually looked kind of interesting. On the other hand everything Dead Rising outside of the first game I think has been a miss step. With the second game replacing the main character with an unlikable nobody, and then they basically release a glorified DLC as a full game. This time This Time starring the character that everybody wanted to play as. And the third game started life out as an XBox One exclusive with very little in the way of creativity.

And as interesting and fun as the first game is it's really just a tech demo for the Xbox 360. Something needed to be done beyond the gimmick of a lot of zombies on screen.
