The core games? No, absolutely not. But you really don't need to ditch the turn based mechanics to even improve the games.

>What ideas do you have, and does it even matter when we all know none of them are going to happen?
Then what's the point of having these threads if our complaining doesn't matter?
As for my ideas I have a few that I've been thinking of for implementation in a fangame or romhack.
>Tweaking Mega Evolutions: The main issue with Mega Evolutions when they were introduced and even in Gen 7 is that there is no risk to using them aside from the loss of the item slot on the Pokemon, which is usually worth it. First, Mega Evolutions need a turn limit, 3 to 5 turns would suffice. This would prevent players from simply going Mega the first turn the Pokemon is out, since it would make doing it at the right time and circumstances important, and it would play into the lore of the Mega Evolutions being incredibly straining on the Pokemon. Perhaps even add in a mechanic that either requires a sacrifice of HP or PP before using Mega Evolutions.
>Speaking of, the entire PP system needs to be revised. Having individual PP counts for each move vs. a sort of "mana pool" means there's little to no consideration of how often to use your most effective and powerful attacks. Introducing a proper energy meter system would improve the game, and like HP the new energy system could be a stat that can be improved by EVs (or Awakening Values if they're going to replace them in more games like Let's Go did), and each Pokemon would have a different energy regen rate (either through a stat, or have it based on their nature, or something else).
>Z-Moves would mesh into this system by requiring large amounts of energy and Z-Moves should lock out the move used to carry out the move as if it burned out the ability to use the move, i.e. if you used Fire Blast as the Z-Move's base you would not be able to use Fire Blast for the rest of the battle.
>This is more of a single player issue but being able to use Z-Moves in one battle and then you're able to immediately jump to another battle, say in the wild, and use a Z-Move is rather silly and it would let the player steamroll NPCs with just Z-moves. Either require the player to go X amounts of steps or something else before Z-moves can be used in battle again
These are some of the changes I'd make.
