Why hasn't anybody followed this tried-and-true formula in the past 15 years? Just make a new character by basing it on an older one from the mid-20th century (or even older, like the late 19th century. I'm pretty sure there's no Dirks estate that will sue you for making a new video game that rips off the Katzenjammer Kids anymore), and contemporize it.
Homelanders and Alphas don't have charismatic and distinctive characters with vivid personalities to latch onto; they have some elite special forces dude with a ski mask that has a skull on it voiced by that guy from Eastenders and a generic template block man with a blue t-shirt and a lame dad beard as the icons of their generations so coming up with the next big thing should be a trivial matter for any idiot to accomplish, right?
