I'm replaying Bloodborne again and it once again reaffirms that its one of my all time favourite games. Not perfect with things like maybe having to vial farm if you hit a rough spot or lower build variety -though of course you aren't picking an rpg class you are just 'the hunter' with minor variations based on toolset for the most part- but upon revisit the tone, style, level design, music and gameplay are one of my all time favourite games and this gen that response has been real fucking rare. Theres been some good games, but i'm always like 'yeah mario oddysey is fun, but i'd rather be playing galaxy' in most cases.

Maybe i'd put P5 and Bayo 3 up there but those are some cross gen games so probably count less.

What games this gen do you consider your alltime favourites in a period of cinematic mainstream, wider market appeal trash?

It's really only been BB and titanfall. If DMC5 is any good that might get on there. I can't stand the bayonetta games. Breath of the Wild is so close to being a great game, it's just missing all the content. The Last Guardian is a personal favorite of mine, but I know people fucking hate that game so whatever.

nuDOOM. After all of /v/'s trash talking about it, I got it on sale and expected it to be garbage. It's a blast, it's just simple, mindless demon killing. The music is top tier, the guns feel nice and meaty, the Glory Kills are actually a pretty neat mechanic except when you get the power-up that speeds them up and makes them look goofy. Even the story is kind of cool when you read the lore snippets and Slayer's Testament. And while SnapMap utterly pales in comparison to good old fashioned pwads, it's really not so bad for some extra fun.

I haven't touched the multiplayer though, nor do I intend to.

Expecting to be able to hold your own against twenty mobile Imps who are all able to lead projectiles and flank you while attacking you all simultaneously and shaving off half your health bar on hit, as opposed to twenty Imps in olDoom who move super slow and can only shoot in straight lines, just shows you probably don't know what you actually want

Are you a puzzle games kind of person Anon? Because I loved Shadow of the Colossus and Ico for their atmospheres, whereas I didn't like The Last Guardian because it seemed more constant puzzles than atmosphere. Obviously both of the former consisted mostly of puzzles too, but they didn't feel like puzzle games, I think because of the atmosphere.

I agree anon, nuDOOM is a worthy reinterpretation.

It does all the things og-doom did with a modern take, most maps are just rails and there is little key hunting but that's about it.

The combat is just as tactical with added verticality, guns very distinct and impactful with perhaps exception for the plasma gun but it was always the weakest feel in ol'Doom.

Anons who exclusively shit on nuDOOM most likely hasn't played it or just have shitty fucking tasteBut most likely run-of-the-mill contrarian cunts.

I don't remember the last time a game bid farewell to the player and deleted its saved data after completion. I think some of the gameplay decisions are questionable, but god damn did Yoko Taro nail the aesthetic, execution and 2B's ass
