55b1f4 No.15923701
Don't really have the money for it, I imagine that's most of /v/'s problem. If I could, I would do it but it's not feasible for me. So I compromised and just back up load on original hardware. If I could collect feasibly, I'd still back up load on original hardware just for convenience sake, probably just buy/collect games I really like. I do get related goods like some old collectors items or advertisements because I think they're a lot of fun.

Having all my games being digital has been the number one best thing in the last 5 years.
I threw out every single last physical game I owned when I got it digitally.
I have absolutely no space to have a huge collection of disks and hardware with how often I have to find new places to live.
Anyone who still owns physical games is stuck in the past like the luddites they are.
The era of having every game of an entire generation for every console in your hand is now.
It's generally people who feed the aftermarket for these space wasters who hold back gaming.

I have S-Video cables for my PSX and SNES and the picture they produce is beautiful, and lightgun games are the shit. But I haven't found any similar kind of solution for my Genesis Model 2 and I'm just using standard composite cables for it. The composite picture from my Genesis is… unsavory, to say the least. The ultimate flaw with collecting is the notion of value, as if it is something that will appreciate in value until you will one day be able to offload it all and finally make your money back. Having games on your shelf that you loved playing makes sense. Hoarding old shit because you think you're being a clever businessman who will make a gorillion dollars in 50 years is just fucking retarded. It's like the dumb shits who bought tons of baseball cards because they heard about some single card with a print error on it that's valued at $50,000 or some shit. Turns out the only time those kinds of things have value is when other obsessive retards are burning their money trying to fill out their own collection because they think they're going to get an assload of cash someday for their worthless pile of garbage that no one actually wants.

Even so, I am from Eastern Europe, so I doubt video game pirates are a priority for authorities, plus I don't intend to sell or distribute them, so it's not pirating(it's just a backup), I will even put a little GoG.com watermark on the cases and DVDs so that I and other people can know that they aren't original games, so that I can't be accused of fraud or whatever bullshit. This is more of a trifle than something practical(like putting all the games on two huge hard drives and make a RAID-1 type backup).

I keep my physical copies for my older games, but I've pretty much moved onto emulation, softmodding, or flashcarts depending on the system and whether or not I own it. Even for games I own like Pokémon, flashcarts let me have multiple saves or even play ROMhacks on original hardware.
I use emulation for consoles I don't own, or occasionally to mess with 3D games at increased resolution, but ideally I'd like to get said consoles when I have the money and space for them.

730053 No.15927968
As a major collector-fag, I get sick of people saying things like "why would I waste my money when I can emulate or torrent everything?"
Thing about it is that there is absolutely not one single thing that is impressive about having every NES ROM in a file, or pirating some game. No real work went into it, nothing was sacrificed in order to gain anything. There's no real labor of love that goes into collecting ROMS or playing a cracked version of the latest game. Yet, people insist on pushing that fact out there, like they're some sort of financial genius or the most clever people to exist that they can do absolutely next to nothing and still be able to enjoy whatever game they wish.
That doesn't make you clever, or a genius. It makes you a selfish hedonist who shirks out of every opportunity to be a contributing member of society. You act so smug, yet you have no sense of passion for anything. Why should anyone give you any ounce of recognition?
Besides, which do you think would be a better way to invite social conversation into one's life? A MAME emulator running Donkey Kong? Or an authentic and working Donkey Kong arcade machine from 1981? Sure, most people would find it unfeasible to own such a thing, let alone have it in their own house, but any sense of passion and dedication is a far more better and desirable character trait than being a shithead with an emulator that ANYONE could download and run.
