So I recently started getting into DDR and similar games. I already bought some DDR games for my PS2 and went to DDR Freak for machine locations. Thing is, why is this genre not that popular anymore? And what are some good DDR alternatives?

Yes, it's dead.

Taiko no tatsujin is pretty fun, but that's just standard rhythm - not a dance game. It's also digital only and really needs the $60 drum peripheral to make the most out of it.

Tripp went out of style, thus the game itself died.

Didn't they celebrate 20 years recently?

It seems they're only updating cabinets and not releasing new games though.

StepMania was the only option I knew of on PC. Probably others. Don't know if it supports pads, would be kind of stupid if it didn't.

Oops. Meant to supplement the other post, but oh well.

stepmania is the best way to go, tons and tons of songs that have already been made by actual koreans, weebs, from former playlists of rhythm games. too bad half of what's made is made for keyboard, if you're a pad player

pump it up is a nice mixup for ddr,

if you're bent on having a nice dancepad, check out impulse platforms if it ever comes out.

thanks anon.

Isnt there a way to configure a pad for stepmania though?

yeah there is, it's very simple too, if you're using like a ps2 dancepad you have to look for an adapter for it similar to a ps2 pad

Rhythm games? I still play Guitar hero with the plastic guitar accesory

Damn 18 year old millennials don't play anything except Battlecuck 5 and Cucknite

I got a PS2 Guitar Hero controller the other day. It feels great compared to the newer 360 ones. Maybe it just wasn't used as much.

There is, but the problem is that songs specifically made for keyboard (aka most of the fucking things available) are autistically hard on a pad since they are made to be played with your fingers at blistering speeds.

Your best bet is getting packs of songs already existing from other ddr games

What are some good DDR games to get? I have the PS2 pads. I miss guitar hero and rockband. All the cousins used to crowd around and want to play together and have fun. Now everyone just drinks.

>DDR Freak for machine locations

https://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/arcades.php

I would check this as well since DDR Freak seems a bit outdated, at least for my area. This site's also good for downloading songs from the arcade releases, either for use in StepMania or just to have the songs. You can download them individually or in packs.

They were doing that for a while and then they released DDR A in 2016. I don't know if they have plans for another one at this point, though, plus A is pretty much limited to certain Dave & Buster's and Round1s.

There's also StepManiaX pads you can get for $1,360 but they're out of stock and won't be back until March, last I heard. I actually just got back into DDR after years of not playing it and wouldn't mind buying one. When you go to an arcade you're always at the mercy of pad quality, and even though I'm lucky enough to have a decent arcade near me there's the occasional step that just doesn't register. Plus if you play a lot then it won't take too long to go through large amounts of money at the arcade, though at least there's a chance of meeting other regulars to play against.

You can play crypt of the necrodancer on a DDR pad

does that count?
