Anyone ever heard of this Parsec program? Apparently it can be used to make just about any game online, and people are claiming it works even better then the PS4's game sharing (even though that part isn't too hard to believe) Frankly it still sounds a little too go to be true, but technology has come along way.

Well it certainly has that "we're going to sell every tiny morsel of your data that we can" art style down pat. What's this shit called again? Something minimalism? Whatever it is I consider it a warning sign for a program. It's the kind of art style that tells you that the company is hiding something from you.

>Anyone ever heard of this Parsec program?

Yeah I tried it with someone and there's a few tech caveats which I'll go into.

>Apparently it can be used to make just about any game online,

Ehto.jpg not quite. Here's what I found and iirc the technical detail might still be on their faq or site.

-For 2D 16 bit type emulation (SNES Genesis etc) or anything similar level it works ok-to fairly good with 5-6mbps connection. Anything more such as 3D you need 10mbps+ connection otherwise the lag makes it unplayable.

-Claims of Loonix compatibility is still uneven last time I tried it. I used the latest requirement, *buntu based 16.04 various distro and I can not get it to connect. Wound up using W10 LTSB.

>and people are claiming it works even better then the PS4's game sharing (even though that part isn't too hard to believe) Frankly it still sounds a little too go to be true, but technology has come along way.

IMO that's a bit overhyped on their part. The part they don't trumpet is you do need a minimum of 10mbps connection to get most of what they advertise to really work, though for lower emulation you can get by with 5. So if you have 10mbs+ it's fairly ok tech wise.

>what about datamining privacy etc

Same shit as any similar type of service tbh, do not trust it 100% then again that's a general policy that should be adopted a lot more.

I remember reading about this years ago when I was looking for something similar, was still in development back then. NVidia has, or had, a feature that does the same thing.

I think there's no reason not to give this a go, however I don't believe this can work reliably over the internet. Maybe on lan or something, but streaming video online will always lead to either heavy delay or low framerate/quality. Unless they came up with some super duper image compression technology.

Hamachi and similar programs establish a VPN between users, you dingus. They're used to put everyone in the same subnet and broadcast domain (many LAN games use broadcast messages to avoid having to type IPs). They also conveniently spare you from having to make NAT mappings which are a pain to do (especially with games that don't use static ports).

Can't speak to the program itself, but it looks like it works the same way Ps4 "share play" does: it streams the game from your rig and accepts controller inputs from your hypothetical friend's rig.
