>but alas, the story was just about coming to terms with mental health issues
This is the new hip thing to do, especially on social media, to either pretend that you're a good person who gives a damn or be seen as brave and understanding to take a stand on something while not really saying anything of value or groundbreaking. I don't know how else to see it since fuck is this shit everywhere:
>MENTAL HEALTH IS A REAL PROBLEM GUYS
>SO IMPORTANT THAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH
>GUYS I HAVE TO TAKE A BREAK FROM THIS DUE TO MY MENTAL HEALTH
>REAL BRAVE TO SPEAK UP ABOUT THE ISSUES YOU ARE HAVING, YOUR MENTAL HEALTH IS SOOOOO IMPORTANT
This is not to say that there isn't any issues at all but nowadays it's treated like some epidemic or plague that's being spread around when really it's just virtual signalling.
>without even specifying what or why
Of course they don't. Because it doesn't matter. The entire conversation is disingenuous and is just for patting each other on the back without any specifics, deliberating, or solutions. Those that harp on it do so just to feel like they are making a difference but without really diving into the topic no ground is actually being covered so it's a colossal waste of time. Of course video games are just entertainment, so one could argue it's all a waste of time and that it doesn't have to really be "meaningful" since it's just a game and that's fine. But we all know how these types of games are done these days: they are made very often to make a statement, to scream boldly from the rooftops some ideal that people should take hold fast, to really break the chains and let it all out. So forgive me and my presumptions that for this game it's unlikely they wanted it's entire narrative to just be "meaningless" and delivered it in a way that it offers more weight.
What makes it so disingenuous is that it's always so ambiguous. "What mental health issues?" is a good question before you can even start a conversation but nope, why ever be specific, just cast this extremely wide overarching net that doesn't mean anything and too broad to really be useful. Even on rare occasions you'll get something as vanilla as "depression really sucks okay guys", while lame still something tangible at least, but often outside of that these so called mental health issues that are so terrible and that inspire so much creative works or games are never specified because they themselves likely don't even know.
It's cheerleading without even knowing what Team you are cheerleading for, and only doing the cheerleading to look busy and active. Because it's not about knowing how to actually solve anything.
