Okay, so we either start in one of the Compass seas (East west, etc..) and this is determined by whether or not we used the inheritor feature (Sort of like a Newgame+) and what character class we picked.
The game has a number of Randomly generated pirate groups for the starter areas, as well as a few OC ones, existing ones, and ones from non-canonized content- I.E Ganzack
Main game let's you play as humans for the most part- progress unlocks usage of other races- Fishman start ahead- but the levels of encounters and shit in the new world, despite benefit of swimming has a sort of reversed gameplay, where you're messing around in everything before the new world.
You can sail in real time or in an over-world mode, but the overworld mode leaves you susceptible to other players, as a part of PVP/Trade/Parlay
Navy encounters scaled to bounty- fame, notoriety, effect NPC interaction on islands, and ingame encounters
Partaking in certain Pirate actions determines the nature of your Pirate gang, or rather, how crewmembers are managed, large pirate groups are good for beginners and low levels, but leveling takes time, and at worst, many members of your crew are more likely to act like generic non-centric One Piece Pirates, earning infamy fast, and a quick demise at the hands of a significant Canon PC, wheras, tight knit specialists are more controllable allow you to unlock more game features fast in terms of NPC interaction, and well, you'd get attached to them more
Things get better if you can attract minion pirates controlled by established officers- who are promoted from existing crewmembers who are levelled enough to meet the requirements of being one, and usage of online guild/faction/in-game factions grants benefits to your management of your own crew, I.E you have minions- Midbosses- Your main Nakama- People on your freinds list under Nakama, or acting as allies, both which confer benenfits and disadvantages to your career in piracy, and then there's an allied world faction, namely local world factions, where you're hired by a local island/small continent to act as well, whatever Francias Drake does, joining a Warlord Crew post War of the best, or Allying with a yonko, or remaining independant.
Management content aside, gameplay is held between combat, Ship, combat/Raiding, looting, mostly Sid mier Stuff, and NPC quests with ranks of difficulty.
The 1st stage of the Grand Line is effectively a challenge based on weather conditions, and Ship preparations, as well as the game testing player level, you can grind to hell and back, but if you fuck up reverse mountain, you can enjoy whatever nasty surprises and resource and crew losses are caused by smashing the ship
When you're in the grand line? Random island navigation + Oh shit, we don't have a good enough !not nami to fill the navigation position enjoy the fuckass weather + open PVP and island deathtraps, but hey! losing is fun!
